Klaviyo is a multi-channel marketing automation platform designed to help businesses obtain, retain, and expand their customer base. It offers a sleek and modern web app, customizable templates, push notifications, advanced analytics, and over 350 integrations, including Shopify and WooCommerce.
Right after signing up, users must take the first steps to set up Klaviyo, which include adding  address and sender information. Then, you can either begin fresh or make the most of its wide array of integration options to centralize and sync data across your business systems.
For example, businesses using Shopify can seamlessly sync all data with Klaviyo, including subscriber lists and order details. Additionally, if you turn onsite tracking on, you can use Klaviyo sign-up forms and record browsing behaviors, allowing you to interact with your store visitors, even if they haven’t made a purchase.
The customer engagement tools include multichannel campaigns, over 100 customizable templates, built-in flows, and sign-up forms. Going the extra mile, there are in-depth data and customer growth features like APIs, customer profiles, reports, advanced analytics, and benchmarks.
What truly makes Klaviyo stand out are its AI-powered tools like predictive analytics, A/B testing, smart send time, and AI-personalized product feeds. We enjoyed how these completely remove all the guesswork associated with marketing.
Finally, although the web platform is clean and beautiful, it’s a challenge to navigate for beginners, making it more appropriate for experienced marketing professionals.
There’s no doubt that the main selling point of this solution is email marketing. Businesses get multiple email campaign options for specific purposes like product launches, newsletters, and holidays, and an extensive library with over 160 templates, filtered by type.
Klaviyo’s AI-powered learning systems promote a healthy, balanced, and lasting relationship with your customer base. For example, messages are sent at the best time of the day and customers will never be overwhelmed with correspondence, as AI ensures that recently contacted recipients are skipped.
Regarding automation, while the platform has an extensive catalog of premade flows, you can always create your own based on your audience’s behavior and customer profiles. Some behavior triggers include placing an order, viewing a product, and filling out a form. Then, you can alter the trigger with metrics like view frequency, cart order value, order frequency, and customer lifetime value (CLV).
Another high-value feature is Klaviyo’s advanced web forms, which are an excellent way to capture leads and gain insights. Plenty of formats are available, such as pop-ups, teasers, and full-page and embedded forms. Just like flows, you can customize forms with countdowns, dropdowns, checkboxes, and more.
One point of improvement would be introducing a translation feature to really enhance the platform’s international appeal.
To complement all its email features, Klaviyo also provides SMS marketing tools. These can be combined with email or used independently depending on the objective. Like email, SMS marketing uses Klaviyo’s powerful automation and AI features to deliver the best customer journey possible.
The highlights are personalized messages, an SMS performance and deliverability hub, and even guided warming to gradually scale up SMS campaigns while maintaining deliverability rates. Fortunately, users don’t need to worry about mobile carrier fees, as they’re included in all subscription options, allowing you to avoid unexpected charges later.
While it’s expanding its reach, Klaviyo SMS is limited to only a few countries. These include the U.S. (the 50 states only, excluding Puerto Rico and other territories), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and 12 European countries like the UK, France, Germany, and Spain.
For channel variety, Klaviyo offers unlimited mobile push notifications, which are available for any business with its own mobile app on Android or iOS. They provide another communication channel to reach customers and can be used on the same grounds as email or SMS to deliver promotions, recover abandoned carts, and more.
For a polished finish, users get custom reports and benchmarks to monitor progress, identify patterns, run A/B tests, and compare performance with similar brands. Plus, all data is presented in a clean and visually engaging format, empowering users to make stratetic data-driven decisions.
Klaviyo’s platform is accessible via a web app and unfortunately there isn’t a mobile app. However, it is possible to use a mobile browser, but we recommend this for urgent matters only since it’s not a user-friendly experience.
Klaviyo includes two purchasable add-ons for full functionality: the customer data platform (CDP) and reviews. The CDP offers in-depth audience analysis, real-time and periodic data syncs, data transformation and standardization, and custom metrics. Plus, implementing CDP is effortless since it requires minimal setup. To wrap it all up, there’s a 30-day free trial to test the add-on before buying it.
The reviews add-on is available only for Shopify and WooCommerce and is just as scalable as Klaviyo‘s main features. It includes premade workflows for review request automation, customer profile enhancement, follow-up automation, custom review widgets, and it syncs with Google Shopping reviews.
What’s more, there’s the option to let customers ask product-related questions via Q&A, and it provides review analytics with insights on performance. The icing on the cake is that you can easily import your existing reviews via CSV.
With over 350 integrations, finding a platform or service that Klaviyo doesn’t integrate with isn’t easy. There are integration options for CRM, eCommerce, help desk, shipping and logistics, and social media platforms. The most popular integrations are with ecommerce solutions like Shopify, WooCommerce, and Opencart.
This provides businesses with the priceless option of connecting all their existing data with Klaviyo, making the implementation process quick and smooth. Alternatively, you can build your custom integration with this solution’s open APIs.
Klaviyo offers highly flexible and transparent pricing that’s easily scalable, depending on your business needs. For starters, its free plan includes up to 500 monthly email sends, 150 SMS credits per month, and email support in the first two months of service. The one downside with this plan is that all emails sent have a Klaviyo watermark that’s only removable when purchasing one of the paid plans.
For paid subscriptions, there’s a plan for email and another for email and SMS. Both prices vary depending on the number of active profiles, from 0 to over 250,000. The lowest price for a Klaviyo paid subscription is $20 per month for the Email plan.
The package includes 5,000 monthly email sends, push notifications, and email and chat support. Then, for an additional $15 per month, there’s Klaviyo‘s Email and SMS subscription, with all the same perks, plus 1,250 SMS credits.
For payments, users can choose automatic billing with the most popular credit or debit cards or manual billing via ACH or wire transfer. We recommend subscribers keep track of their subscription status since accounts are automatically suspended after several failed payments.
Rest assured, when it comes to customer support, Klaviyo leaves no stone unturned. It has a section with information on the latest updates to the platform, a personalized demo, a community, and a help center, and even a thorough academy with live training, best practices, courses, and certificates.
Plus, its support channels include email, live chat, and virtual chat, depending on which plan you’re subscribed to. After contacting Klaviyo via email with its free version, we received a straightforward and polite reply in under two hours.
Its presence on social media platforms includes Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, but they’re mostly used for promotional purposes and tutorials.
Klaviyo is an outstanding email, SMS, and push notifications marketing platform that leverages the latest advancements in AI and automation to help businesses maximize campaign success and achieve high ROI metrics. You can customize campaigns to the tiniest detail, which allows for a much better customer journey experience for your audience.
Alternatively, for a more straightforward approach, there’s a vast library of templates for multichannel marketing campaigns, flows, and forms. In addition to all its automation power, Klaviyo scrutinizes all your customer data and compiles it into detailed reports so you can fine-tune strategies accordingly.
Despite its wide range of integrations, we recommend Klaviyo for eCommerce businesses. It offers the best experience for platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce, not to mention the available add-ons for data management and reviews, which are crucial for online stores.
Although it has a few downsides, like limited support for free accounts, restricted SMS location compatibility, and a watermark on the free version, these aren’t dealbreakers.
Finally, it goes without saying that Klaviyo‘s free version is like a gift for any marketer, letting them benefit from the solution without spending a dime. Due to this, the company doesn’t offer refunds, which we felt is completely understandable.
