California’s PeopleFinders claims it can “find anyone, anywhere”. It’s a bold claim, but with 43 billion public records to search from, the service can certainly has the power. As the name suggests the service has helped users find people since 1999. To do that, PeopleFinders runs everything from simple people searches to in-depth background checks. You can find out information from addresses and phone numbers to more in-depth financial history and criminal records. The service checks over 6,000 different sources to ensure its data is as accurate as possible. PeopleFinders allows you to run one-off reports, or you can get a monthly subscription if you need to run them frequently with prices starting at $24.95 a month.
PeopleFinders splits its service into two main categories. The first is the simple people search the company gets its name from. These searches are ideal for anyone looking up long lost friends and family. Naturally, they’re not as in-depth as a full background check, focusing more on the person’s current whereabouts to help people be reunited. We do like that PeopleFinders gives you the option of doing this, so you don’t have to pay up for a more in-depth search.
Of course, if that’s not enough then you can instead choose a full background check, which gives you a much more detailed report. Background checks will scour thousands of different sources to provide you with all the information you’ll ever need. The service also provides a reverse phone number search, so you can quickly find out who’s calling you.

If you’re just using PeopleFinders to do a regular search then your reports will be fairly minimal, but it might be just enough for what you need. Ordinary people searches provide you with full names, addresses, and phone numbers making it easy to reconnect with someone.
A full background check will provide you with all the information you’d get from a regular people search as well as extra information like age, aliases, and known relatives. On top of that, PeopleFinders will show you financial information like property records, liens, and bankruptcies. The criminal record search will also find past judgments, misdemeanors, past offenses, and check for the person’s name on any sex offender lists.
However, there are some notable absences from results. For example, the service doesn’t search for any employment history. There are also no social media results despite the fact that PeopleFinder’s VerifyMyLead app uses LinkedIn results, so the technology is certainly there.

The PeopleFinders website allows you to begin a search immediately and you’re able to quickly swap between searching by name, phone number, email, and address. We recommend using the advanced search feature to help narrow down your results. If you just want to do a criminal or public record check then you can easily do that too. However PeopleFinder’s website annoyingly makes you scroll all the way to the bottom to find the correct menu.
Search results are instantaneous, and you’ll quickly be able to filter through to find the person you’re looking for. To run a more in-depth check from this point takes just a few minutes.

The PeopleFinders website is easy to use if a little awkward at times. As we mentioned, finding any of the searches that aren’t immediately on the homepage requires a large amount of scrolling. Besides that, we found no real issues with the website itself, and there’s plenty of information to help you make the most of the service.
PeopleFinders offers a mobile app for Android and iOS users called IdentityWatch. With the app you can run searches and checks just like with the desktop version. However, with IdentityWatch you also have automatic call blocking from PeopleFinder’s scammer list. One really useful feature of the mobile app is that it monitors hacked accounts and will send alerts for any stolen photos.
Businesses can also count on using PeopleFinder’s API to integrate the service as they see fit. There’s also a browser extension called VerifyMyLead, another very literal name for a service that checks a lead’s identity to see if they’re a reliable lead based on public records and LinkedIn.
Of course, it’s impossible for any background check service to be 100% accurate, after all they have to deal with public records which are always liable to have errors. Importantly, PeopleFinders checks from over 6,000 different sources to ensure information is wide-reaching and accurate. However, there are no ways of correcting any of the information provided by PeopleFinders, even if it’s your own. Because of this, PeopleFinders stresses that its service should only be used for reconnecting and looking up potential dates and not for employee screening, tenant screening, or anything else covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Unfortunately, PeopleFinders doesn’t go into details about the exact methods of website security, but it does encrypt data end to end. However, the privacy policy does go into greater detail about how information is used.
PeopleFinders allows users to remove their own information from the website, although the process isn’t the easiest. First, you need to find your own information and profile on the PeopleFinders website before copying the link and filling out a form. You’ll have to verify your email address before the process is finished but if you do have any issues you can contact customer support directly.

Although running a simple search is cheap, costing just $1.95 each. If you’re going to be doing searches regularly then it’s well worth subscribing to the PeopleFinders Membership, which for $24.95 allows you to run as many people searches as you want. That seems simple enough, but when it comes to background checks an individual one is quite expensive at $39.95 each time. It’s far more beneficial to subscribe to the Premium Membership for just $29.95 to get access to everything. Although PeopleFinders regularly post on Facebook and Twitter, don’t expect a response to any questions that way.
The PeopleFinders website does have plenty of information that will help with the service though, with a helpful FAQ section. There’s also the PeopleFinders blog, which is regularly updated with lots of important advice on staying safe online.
No matter what kind of search you need to do, chances are you’ll get what you need with PeopleFinders. Even if you’ve never run a background check before, you’ll have no problem navigating the service – although the website isn’t quite as polished as some of its rivals’. We particularly like that you can choose between running a people search and a full background check, so you won’t need to spend money unnecessarily. However, searches do lack employment history and social media results so for some users they might not be comprehensive enough. If you’re running reports regularly, then the PeopleFinder’s rewards scheme is essential, as you’ll be able to run background checks for just $1. With a 15-day refund policy, it’s well worth testing out the service to see if it can give you the information you’re looking for.
