PureVPN, one of our top ranked VPN providers, just released a handy new extension for Google Chrome. Although it’s nothing really new as there are other companies who have already taken this step before, new features meant to increase users’ privacy are always worthy of applause. However, because nowadays no tool has solely one funtion, PureVPN equiped the new Chrome extension with some extra features that will surely delight its subscribers. Despite the extension being absolutely free and able to be downloaded by anyone with Chrome installed, only those who are PureVPN members can actually benefit from it, as the first step after installing is inserting your credentials.
Starting with the basics, the resemblances with other tools such as SurfEasy’s VPN for Opera, SaferVPN and Windscribe‘s extensions for Chrome and Firefox respectively are notorious, as all these work on the same basis. In fact, PureVPN’s Chrome extension doesn’t seem much different at first: you have a simple mini-client accessible from the top right of your browser by clicking the company’s logo and from there you can choose a number of countries to connect to.
However, similarities stop here as PureVPN goes further than most of its competitors. Actually, not only the Chrome extension offers access to PureVPN’s large server network with connections to 29 countries (covering all the main areas of the globe such as Europe, North and Central Americas, Asia and even Australia) but it gives more features too. These include an ad-blocker and protection against website trackers, malware and WebRTC leaks.
The only downside we can point is precisely the fact that a PureVPN membership is required to make use of the extension, besides the fact that it is an exclusive for Chrome. From the company’s point of view it is pretty natural and acceptable that advertising such feature as a nice add-on service to every subscription can be a new factor for attracting more customers. However, it is quite unfortunate that there isn’t a free version of this. This way all those who haven’t decided whether to invest in the company could have just a taste of what to expect, though PureVPN does have a 7-day money back guarantee that allows you to give the whole service a risk-free test drive. In the same way, having it extended to other browsers such as Firefox could also appeal to more people.
Regardless, we are definitely happy with this new feature release and it’s surely a positive addition to an already extraordinary service from one of the companies that already served its clients to the best. In fact, this can be a decider and a very useful tool to set the future of one aspect we believe has a great potential: VPN browser extensions.
