Windscribe is a VPN service founded in Ontario, Canada, having launched its service in April of 2015. It provides you full access to those blocked websites you want to visit, but that you are unable to reach due to region blocks for your location. With Windscribe you can virtually travel with your anonymous IP from Hong Kong to the U.S. without leaving you house. All you need to do is download the app – whether you want it on your PC, Mac, smartphone or any other system (there is also a browser extension) – and then create an account. What makes Windscribe different is that there is no misleading information, making everything easy to use. Furthermore, it features an ad block and social network and website tracking preventions. With regards to the pricing, there is an option to create a free account, or you can go ahead and try a monthly or a yearly subscription of $7.50 per month at its lowest. You are eligible to request a refund up to 3 days after purchase, which makes it possible to try Windscribe Pro without any risk.
Windscribe as a whole is a very easy tool to use. All you need to do is to create an account, whether you want a free trial one or a paid subscription, and download the desktop client for your Windows or Mac system. For a free account you will be given up to 10GB of bandwidth; if you don’t confirm your e-mail you will only have 2GB). While in this free account you can only have one account and the “basic” 9 server locations, if you upgrade to Windscribe Pro your boundaries will no longer exist and you will have access to all 26 server locations and all IP addresses. The only thing you cannot do is share accounts since it’s prohibited.
“We aim to develop easy to use yet powerful tools that allow anyone to circumvent censorship”. This is the main aspect of Windscribe and, truth being told, they deliver. With the world of VPNs constantly seeking out better programs or tools to erase your footprints from the sands of the internet, Windscribe keeps it simple and brings an exclusive, yet very appealing and clever browser extension. This is basically the same tool as the desktop app but it only applies to your browser, so any other application you have on your system will use your ISP-provided IP address. This is a very useful tool especially aimed at blocking ad beacons and trackers, and also social widgets from Facebook or Twitter that track you and send your information to the respective companies. Also, it lets you generate a secure link and it has almost the same interface as the desktop app, so you won’t waste any time figuring out how to work with it.
Windscribe suggests you use both solutions; the desktop client and browser extension. With these two working together you will be even more protected and disguised for up to 90% visits of whatever content you want.
Cruise Control and Double Hop are two features Windscribe holds up its sleeve that grabbed our attention. The first one basically connects automatically to the best server that is closest to you, in order to optimize speed quality at the same time that it switches to another location to overcome geographically blocked content. Double Hop lets you mask your traffic even further by connecting to a second VPN server, as long as you are using the desktop app. The downside of this is that it will most likely slow down your internet.
To kick things off, you need to set up a free account through which you will get access to 9 different servers spread out over 8 different countries: the U.S., UK, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. This number increases to 26 if you have a paid subscription account, including two on African territory: in Egypt and South Africa.
Overall the quality of the VPN servers is good; so is the connection speed, depending on the server’s location. We tested a few servers and found out that, despite the geographic proximity, the U.S. servers (both East and West Coast ones) seem to be the ones with less speed, compared to servers in France or Brazil for example. Despite this, you should be able to access websites fairly easily, as videos play normally and lag is almost non-existing.
Windscribe has things tightly together on the privacy front of its service. The software uses AES-256 cipher with SHA512 authentication and a 4096-bit RSA key, which are solid and safe standards. The firewall has 3 modes (Automatic, Manual and Always On) and it uses IPv6 and DNS leak protection.
A good feature of this software is the fact that, provided that privacy is the main reason you’ll use it, you’re almost anonymous even to Windscribe. A quick look at the privacy policy will let you know that the company does not use 3rd party tracking services so your activity stays with them for a month before being deleted. When you’re actively connected to the server, your information is placed on a temporary folder. If you decide to leave Windscribe, the only information retained is your username, password and e-mail (if provided).
Paying with Bitcoin is an available option so that your payment details are automatically discarded after being confirmed. If you choose a more traditional way of paying, your transaction ID will be retained for the period of 1 month.
In terms of operating systems you can use, there is a good wide range of choices. There is decent support for the usual suspects Mac and Windows, and a number of mobile devices. Windscribe’s desktop client can be used on Windows XP (!) to 10, Mac 10.8-10.11 and Linux (Pro only). Then we have the shiny browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Opera, with this last one requiring an extra extension. You can also access the service on your smartphone since it is available to run iOS (8+) and Android (4.0.3+), but it’s available in the Pro version only. Windscribe’s arsenal of tools currently offers a native iOS app, and the Android one is coming soon.
To help you set up Windscribe on whatever device you want, there are no step-by-step 100 page long guides. Instead, there are some quick videos for the device device you want to configure. Note that some of the setup configuration may differ from one operating system to another and for some of them, as stated above, you will need a paid subscription since they can only work with the PRO version of Windscribe.
To use Windscribe you need to create an account and, by doing that, you will be choosing a pack. To start off, you can create a free account and test the software as much as you like for an unlimited time. If you are a “light user”, the free account may suit you, though the 2-10GB of bandwidth on the free plan is gone before you realize it. In order to fully enjoy the whole experience you can choose the Pro version of the service. This pack not only eliminates any barriers; it also gives you access to almost 3 times more server locations than the free account provides. You can become a Pro member by purchasing single monthly packs by the price of $9 and start making internet your playground. More interestingly there is a special $90 yearly plan that brings down the price to $7.50 per month, which in the end would save you the equivalent of two months compared to the single month pricing.
To purchase the Pro version you have a wide range of methods you may use to pay. Windscribe offers the traditional payment methods like MasterCard, American Express, Visa, PayPal and Payment Wall, as well as Bitcoin. If for some reason you don’t like the VPN service or you want to get back to the free version, you can ask your money back during a period of 3 days after the purchase of it.
Windscribe is present both on Facebook and Twitter but you will probably only need to contact them if you have some specific and detailed questions since pretty much all information needed is displayed on the FAQs page. Although there is no 24/7 support via live chat or a call center; you can send the Windscribe staff an e-mail, and receive a reply from the same people who built the service, or post your questions on any of the social media pages. It’s best to use Twitter for requesting help through social media, since Tweets get a reply within hours while Facebook wall posts are typically left unanswered. In case you need any support upon installing the program, there are also some quick tutorial videos on the support page.
Windscribe brings a solid VPN service to the table of which you can enjoy quite a bit for free since the software never forces you to update for the paid version and it doesn’t set a time limit for your free account. The Mac, Windows desktop client combined with the browser extensions that both share the same neat interface and ease of use give you good all-round security. The Cruise Control feature is nice to have, while Double Hop is an option we wish more VPN providers would implement in their service. The very complete FAQs and guides almost seem to make us forget the not so over the top customer support and the free account will most likely please the occasional VPN user. In short, Windscribe is a good alternative for a VPN service that lets you hide in your cape as you disappear in the shadows of the internet while using the operating system you want.

You won’t find anything better than Windscribe. It has only improved over the years and continues to strive to be what I consider the best VPN available today. It has multiple features that are reliable, a good selection of servers to choose from (best to upgrade to enjoy full use) and a ton of security features that help save you having to worry when you surf the net. It’s a great VPN to use and one i’d highly recommend.
I’ve found Windscribe has really improved over the last year or so. Their customer service has gotten a lot better, and it seems they are finally listening to their customers and our requests. I’ve seen such a big change not just in the app itself but customer service wise in the last few months which has really impressed me. I’m glad I gave Windscribe a chance as they provided to be such a good, reliable vpn.
You won’t find anything much better than Windscribe especially as it already has what i consider ‘everything’ you need. Great services, helpful customer support, good layout and easy to use design, plenty of features, and a lot of very reliable servers, something you don’t always find! I personally enjoy using the cruise control as it connects you to the best server. I would highly recommend it.
Windscribe recently had an update and I was very happy to see a new design, continuous good speeds, and helpful customer care. I have only recently upgraded to the Pro Plan and i’ve been very impressed with what Windscribe has continued to offer. Good features and security systems in place, great speeds, excellent customer care, and most importantly, it’s reasonably priced.
Love this VPN! Very easy to use and move between servers. Lots to choose from and lots of features that cover the major security issues one normally has. Ads are blocked, you can whitelist sites, cookie monster is great, and US Netflix works like a charm. Worth every cent in my opinion.
A must have! Windscribe has been at the top of my VPN list for over 2 years now, meaning I first got it when it was pretty new. Since then it has come along way and has constantly improved. The amount of extra features that you get with Windscribe is great, and the security level is that of another dimension! Something a lot better than many other VPNs that charge way more. Their system is one of the best i’ve seen and it only continues to get better.
Winscribe sucks. I’ve been trying to connect to ABC.GO with no content access. Tells me that my location does not match. To contact my ISP. That tells me that this service is ineffective and a great waste of time. so it would be a waste of money to use their service.
Easy to use and very reliable. Windscribe has been a great add on which I’ve been using for just over a year now. It’s perfect for everyday use, but you’ll need to upgrade to the pro plan so you have unlimited data. Windscribe also offers a good selection of security features, and servers to connect to. The extra features that are available are a major plus too, making it a very wise investment for those that need the extra level of security + a ton of features + reliable speeds to geo connections.
The recently added secure hotpsot is awesome, I can let my friends at school connect to my wifi, and everyone is protected and can access reddit, which is blocked here.
Been using Windscribe for a while now and I’ve never come across any problems. I’ve really enjoyed being able to easily access geo restricted sites as and when I need them, being able to watch Netflix when abroad and no extra cost, and having the various other security features enabled so I don’t need to constantly worry about trackers and ads. It’s a great VPN to have and one that I would recommend to both professional and normal users. Whether it’s for leisure, work, or school, the level of security you get with Windscribe is fantastic.
I’ve been using Windscribe for almost 4 months now and it’s been a very useful VPN to have. I’ve really enjoyed using the extra features especially US Netflix. The security features are good add ons and provide a great new level of protection when surfing the net. I’ve enjoyed not having ads pop up, or trackers follow me about. I get all this and more on the free plan too!
I dont recomend windscribe to anyone. Before paying their 1 year plan i had a talk to one of their support wich i asked on how many devices can i use windscribe and i was told i can use it on as many devices i would like, this reply was super for me as i have 30 servers wich i use for my personal business. I decided to buy 1 year plan. 9 Month passed away and suddenly one morning i found an email saying windscribe account banned for breaching our tos. then i was told you have been found being sharing your details and unusual login activity found. Ok then i have explained them i use it on 30 servers, sent screenshots of all my records and i asked them if there is unusual login activity as you say is my right to know it so i can change my password because me neither dont want my account hacked. BUT A BIG NO FROM THEM . THEY ARE A BIG NO COMPANY STAY AWAY FROM THEM
My favorite VPN, and one that I’ve been using since it was first launched. I’ve loved having windscribe have my back when it comes to protecting me and my data. The speeds are very reliable and I’ve found that connecting to cruise control is always the best way to find the best server, Their other features such as the cookie monster and blockers also work like a charm!
A big thumbs up to windscribe as they have definitely put a lot of hard work into providing an awesome VPN. Their vpn is one that actually works, and it works amazingly! Great servers, great speeds, great features, and most of all? You can get it for free!
Windscribe has been absolutely great and I would highly recommend it to other users looking for a reliable VPN. Outstanding speeds and security features in place, a good selection of locations to choose from, and a bundle of extra services such as cruise control, cookie monster, Netflix, and more. It’s the whole package and very reasonably priced.
Very impressed with Windscribe and how it works, A great system with a selection of great locations and services. I love using cruise control as it will connect you to the best server, plus, being able to unblock US Netflix and geo-restricted sites is a major plus, something not many VPN’s provide. I would highly recommend trying it out and investing in the pro plan, was worth every $ I paid.
Windscribe continues to amaze me with their fantastic services and speeds. They’ve been a superb VPN for the last couple of years and they only seem to improve! They have the best security features I’ve ever seen with any other vpn.
Very useful VPN. Good selection of security and privacy features, probably the best selection i’ve seen so far in any VPN. There are plenty of features you don’t often come across all in one VPN, so Windscribe has nailed it there. Speed wise, the servers are stable and reliable. I haven’t had any issues with lagging when connecting to locations the other side of the world. It’s definitely worth considering their Pro Plan to avail of the unlimited bandwidth and complete list of servers.
I love how windscribe is continuously improving, how it’ has the best linux support among all VPN’s i’ve tried, and it’s dedicated location to unblock US Netflix, Windflix. It truly is a great VPN worth investing in.
A personal favorite of mine and has been for a couple of years now. I first came across windscribe when it first started up. Since then it had improved in leaps and bounds and only continues to grow. There have been various updates to provide better and more services, plus speeds have got better, security is tighter and even more so, the customer service part of the company is so much better than it was.
While you can get cheaper VPN’s, Windscribe is worth the investment. It’s never failed to provide me with quality speeds and the usage of their services/features. Something to consider investing in if you travel a lot and what that extra level of security when surfing the internet.
Windscribe is great for everyday use, whether it be for personal or business. It may be priced a bit more than others, but for the overall features and consistency in speeds, i’d say it’s worth every cent. Great customer service based on my own personal experience, and I’m very impressed with how maintained it is. Overall it’s a decent vpn and very easy to use making it ideal for newbies.
Great VPN that works smoothly when connected to different locations. Cruise control is awesome and finds the best speeds for you. Haven’t had any issued when it comes watching movies while connected either. A good bundle of features provide the extra security and having the chance to connect to multiple devices is very handy. Worth the download.
Windscribe is definitely a VPN worth looking into if you’re up for one that’s easy to use and reliable. It also features a variety of features that really come in handy, and save you from downloading multiple apps like ad blockers, tracker blockers, etc. Great way to unblock geo restricted sites and watch US Netflix when travelling!
A big fan of windscribe which I’ve been using for the last year. It’s very easy to use and has a load of great features which aren’t always available with other VPN packages. Windscribe is priced fairly especially when you consider everything it includes. It also has a great security system/feature which helps keep your data protected especially when browsing the internet on a day to day basis. The updates always bring better services which is a plus seeing how often the VPN is given the needed maintenance. Overall, windscribe has been a favorite of mine and my family (we all use it at home) and offers the complete package when it comes to safe usage of the internet, and connecting to different locations with good speeds.
Really good vpn that gets the job done and properly! A lot better than other VPNs that i’ve used especially when it comes to the overall function and features. I especially like the unblocking of geo restricted sites feature, and the ad blocker. Saves me from having to download and install multiple apps.
One of the best VPN’s i’ve come across in the last year. Very well looked after with updates that make noticeable changes. A large selection of locations are available on the pro plan, and the recent payment method change is great for those that aren’t sure if they fully want to commit. Customer service has also improved and I’m loving the extra features such us unblocking Netflix and blocking trackers.
Windscribe may not be the cheapest VPN out there, but it’s definitely among the best. Very good speeds for all locations, tested a few out myself to see if I could compare and both came back pretty much the same. It also has a lot of cool features that contribute to keeping you safe as you surf the internet. Great use of firewalls and ad/tracker blockers, never get the following me around nowadays which is a major plus! It’s worth looking into if you’re in need of a VPN that offers the complete package.
The ease of use is great, a lot less complicated than other VPN’s, and a lot faster. There are some VPN’s that are cheaper than Windscribe, but overall, for the quality of speeds and the features that come with it, it seems to be priced fairly. Worth every cent in my opinion and definitely does the job when it comes to protecting your data, identity, and giving you access to sites all over the globe.
Windscribe has been a blessing in disguise. It’s been the perfect way to help me and my data stay safe while searching the net. I have Windscribe on both my phones and laptop which is great value for money. I’m also able to use it on multiple browsers which is a bonus in my opinion. Very satisfied and happy with what I’ve got on their pro plan.
Has been working perfectly me since January, when I first installed. Heard about Windscrbe via a friend which they were praising. Gave it a go and now here I am doing the same thing. It’s very easy to use and I love the cruise control feature. Plenty of extra features that come with it too, even on the free plan. Beats downloading loads of different apps to block ads/tracker, or unlock certain sites. With Windscribe you get everything you want in one place and for one payment (for the pro plan).
This best suits those who are beginners when it comes to using VPNs. Windscribe is very easy and simple to use and they website will really help you understand how VPNs works and what they have to offer if you don’t have prior knowledge. I’ve been using it since last year and find all their features plus speeds are amazing and realible. I definetly feel safer surfing the net.
Fantastic for p2p as it supports in all servers except Japan,South Africa and india. That is a big plus in comparison to other services that have only some dedicated only.
Your review need update as it has almost 600 servers in 52 countries around the world plus dedicated Netflix servers in UK and USA.
I am happy with it especially with the option to have as many devices as you want connected simultaneously.
Only the mobile app need more improvement and need additional features.
Since using windscribe I never worry about having my info leaked on the internet. Why? Windscribe is really good when it comes to protecting and blocking ads, trackers. etc. They have a great selection of information on their website too which is really usefuyl if you’re new and still learning how VPN’s in general work, and how their VPN works.
I’m a windscribe pro plan user and I can testify that it’s really the best vpn. for the price it’s at. I get unlimited use of their features and I get unlimited access to their 50 +servers. I defiently felt their speeds accelerated even more in their pro plan. Also love how they’ve now upgraded their customer support system. Big improvement.
Great review about windscribe, however it might need to be updated. I’ve been using it for 3 months now and I can say that its an awesome VPN. I love how fast their speeds are and their now have live customer support which is a great addition.
Excellent Windscribe! Over 50 server countries to choose from.Plus with their new IKEv2 protocol their speed increased even more. It’s really worth signing up to their pro plan.
I tried a paid subscription with Windscribe. I saw that it was not the best fit for my needs and asked to cancel during the same day I bought the subscription. They offer a 3 day refund policy however, when I heard back from them they denied my request for a refund. I will never do business with this company again and would recommend ensuring you are not going to need customer service or a refund if you do choose to do business with them. Thank god I haven’t had any issues with NordVPN. Much better service in my opinion
Very lucky to have a VPN that does the job, and does it well. Many VPN servers lack a range of services and especially reliable speeds, something Windscribe seems to have mastered and perfected.
I am not very pleased
I paid a year subscription and it started well got all the uk tv I wanted.
Now I’ve lost BBC. And Chanel 4. Not happy only a standard reply from Windscribe when I mailed them about this. Nothing else.
I would like to know what is happening and when I can expect a full service again or a refund.
A really cool VPN to work with. I’m especially impressed with the various geo-restricted sites you can use with Windscribe. Also being able to unblock US Netflix is fantastic. Windscribe has invested a lot of time into making their service great and it really shows!
Really pleased I came across Windscribe. It has been by far the best VPN I’ve tried in the last two years, and I definitely feel they provide you with the complete package. From great services and inclusions in their plans, plus a grand selection of locations to choose from (especially like cruise control) Windscribe is the VPN for me and I’d definitely recommend it to others. It’s simple to use and user-friendly and the ton of information they provide on their website is a massive help.
If you haven’t tried Windscribe out, you should! It’s an essential to your everyday internet life! A must have and would highly recommend. Thanks windscribe for providing us with a top class service.
After having some small issue I felt it was time I got in contact with the customer support team. Despite seeing some comments saying there was a lack of customer care, I was hopeful after experiencing great services from the actual VPN. Fast forward to me getting in contact, my issue was resolved in less than 24 hours and I was even given a few extra tips on how to ensure I get the best out of Windscribe. A lovely team behind a top class VPN.
Some mixed comments in this sections but i’ve had no problems and I think the speed of the connection works perfectly.. For those that are experiencing problems, did you try getting in touch with customer support? I had a log in issue once and it was solved within 24 hours, which I was quite impressed about.
Quite a good VPN in my opinion, speeds are fair and can’t complain seeing as it’s free. There are a few other VPN providers available that are nowhere near as good and cost more.
I’m trying to log in all day into my account it won’t
Don’t be alarmed by the free plan because it’s awesome! So many people are dubious whether the free plan is any good, and I can personally say after using it for 4 months, it’s great. Real quality VPN here.
windscribe vpn all support OS, Device Support
Windscribe’s desktop client can be used on Windows XP (!) to 10, Mac 10.8-10.11 and Linux (Pro only). Then we have the shiny browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Opera,
Windscribe works great. Speeds are much better than what I had with PIA, has more locations and it even works with US Netflix. The recently added secure hotpsot is awesome, I can let my friends at school connect to my wifi, and everyone is protected and can access reddit, which is blocked here.
I am a pro user and loving it. Windscribe have some unique feature, hard to find.
1. Its transparent policy. No log VPN
2. Continuously improving
3. Firewall capability in client. Better than kill switch.
4. Browser extension is the best.
5. Dedicated location to unblock US netflix: called WINDFLIX
6. Stealth VPN
7. Best linux support and linux client. For linux user you can’t find better
8. Allow unlimited simultaneous connection
Much more than a simple VPN. Just give it a try. You will love it.
If you have double hop enable, you bandwidth usage counted doubled because your dada is routed twice by their servers. Make sure you don’t enable double hop, when you don’t need.
I just purchased a lifetime subscription to Windscribe VPN. However, I am disappointed by the speed. I am coming from Private Internet Access VPN and still have that account. I’m able to compared speeds of both. Without VPN I’m getting 26 Mbps in the USA, with PIA 20 Mbps, and with Windscribe consistently 6 Mbps no matter what servers I try. I think this is ridiculous. If I would have known it was this slow, I would have never purchased it. I don’t recommend it at all. Try the other faster VPN options out there!
Windscribe is total rubbish ! any review on here that praises windscribe is all wind f,,,ing nuisances.
I’ve had Windscribe VPN for 5 months. A couple days ago I used it for about an hour, and when I was turning it off I was told that I had used 487mb in that session. Immediately after that I went to my ISP’s internet page, opened my personal office’s section and found out that I had used 380mb in the last 24hrs. How can this be? There’s no sence for my ISP to lie to me since I have Unlimited Access plan, and figures are given just to inform me. There’s sence for Windscribe to cheat me that I exaust my free monthly 50gb quicker and stop loading their servers, or even better buy a subscription. Previously, I also noticed several times that Windscribe traffic statistics were strangely high. If Windscribe
isn’t honest in smaller things, which I believe is the case, how can you trust them at alll?
Yesterday I accidentally deleted my e-mail from the Windscribe account, and my limit dropped to 2gb/month. I tried to restore things and re-entered the e-mail. Was told I’d receive a confirmation message. After waiting for 13 hours filled a ticked. This is what I got back, copy-pasted: “Just letting you know that we received your support request, its quite excellent, one of the best ones we’ve seen, good job!” There was nothing special about my support request and the way I put it, so these words are mockery. On one hand, I’m not surprised, because I’m a free user. On the other, I’m shocked at how shamelessly ugly customers are treated, paid or free. I believe Windscribe to be a lousy, cheating, rude company. Who knows who they share your personal data with. Think twice before using their product.
I’ve been using Windscribe for about 8 months now and it does the job and it does it fast….
As I said, fast connection,it automatically searches for the fastest connection.
For me for instance, living in Belgium the fastest are mostly the Netherlands, Belgium(!) and France with an occasional UK server peeping in…. 🙂
But you can also choose out of a lot countries from where to start. And in these 8 months there was no downtime at all.
Now they have an interesting offer:
17 $ for 20 months, no data limit
good,handy fair
