Mondays are the worst. It’s difficult to get back into work after two days off. To make matters worse, it’s often the day that managers overwhelm their team with handing out tasks. The Tel Aviv-born monday.com uses this notion ironically to highlight how painless the first day of the week (or any other) can be when workflows are managed well. Ever since its foundation in 2012, the company has provided a reliable task management platform where you can work on projects and tasks without losing focus. Its collaboration tools make teamwork as smooth as possible, and its custom workflows make it all even easier. Plus, monday.com provides informative customer service, a free plan for individual use, and a 14-day free trial for its paid plans.

Task management needs its fair share of tools. Most importantly, it needs to provide a place to efficiently create and manage projects and tasks. monday.com delivers this and more. While it can be challenging to figure out how to use it at first, the platform allows you to set deadlines, add milestones, and prioritize specific tasks. Subtasks are called subitems, and creating them takes just a second. monday.com lets you assign tasks to more than one user, and team members are also able to reassign tasks, move deadlines, set up task dependencies, and more. Additionally, the platform conveniently creates to-do lists, accessible through the My Work tab.

monday.com gives a helicopter view of all tasks, letting you visualize your workspaces through charts like Kanban and Gantt, but also with calendars and timelines. The best part is that you can easily change the view for each task, so if you can’t find your way around with one, just choose another. It’s also possible to create a dashboard and link it to a project, which allows you to check up on the work process without opening the workspace.

Project management becomes even more seamless with monday.com’s custom workflow options, which automate parts of the working process such as setting new deadlines or notifying assignees when a dependency has been completed. Finally, monday.com creates workflow reports that it stores for up to a year.

Collaboration tools

There’s no doubt that monday.com provides a rock-solid online project management platform. However, its collaboration tools could be better. Granted, it’s possible to tag team members and comment on the work process, and the platform also keeps activity logs about tasks. Having said that, it could benefit from built-in messaging, project budgeting, and invoicing options. Plus, time-tracking is only available with the most expensive plan. On the flip side, each team member gets their own storage space that can go up to 1,000GB.

Integrations

While monday.com’s platform is certainly enough to see projects and tasks through to completion, it doesn’t hurt that you can stick with your favorite apps. The online management platform natively integrates with close to 50 third-party apps. Integrations include Microsoft Outlook and Teams for more streamlined communication or Slack for notifications if you’re assigned a task when not signed in to monday.com. It’s especially useful that the platform integrates with competitors like Asana, allowing you to track Asana tasks through your monday.com account. In addition, tasks can be imported from one to the other. But the best integration is still Zapier, which boosts the number of available integrations to over 5,000.

If you’ve been using a different project management platform – such as Asana, Trello, Google Sheets, or Excel – you don’t need to worry, as monday.com lets you import projects and tasks. Finally, the platform provides templates for projects, individual tasks, and workflows.

However, the service does provide mobile apps for Android and iOS, letting you manage tasks on the go. This app offers all the same features but appears much simpler than the browser version, letting you check on tasks or create new ones. Here, too, the platform allows you to set a template for workspaces and tasks, assign tasks with just one tap, or update a task with a short comment. Confusingly, subitems created in the app are named subtasks. However, if you’ve previously created ‘subitems’ in the online platform, the mobile app will use the same term. However, this doesn’t work the other way around – ‘subtasks’ created in the mobile app will still appear as ‘subitems’ in the online platform.

Pricing

Saying that monday.com allows just about anyone to try out its services is an understatement. The company’s Individual plan is free, which, interestingly, supports up to two people. In addition to unlimited project boards, free users get 500MB of storage and weekly reporting.

The cheapest paid plan costs $8 a month after each user with a yearly subscription, which provides a discount of up to 20%. It isn’t too different from the free plan but supports unlimited users with 5GB of storage for each. Integrations are included from monday.com’s Standard plan upwards. Advanced tools like time-tracking are luxuries of the Pro plan. Note that each paid plan requires a payment for at least three users, changing the initial price significantly. Bigger companies can also contact monday.com to get a custom quote for the Enterprise subscription, which offers extras like private workspaces and HIPAA compliance.

All paid plans kick off with a 14-day free trial, letting you try out the more advanced tools risk-free. It’s highly recommended to take advantage of this with the Pro plan to learn what features you truly need. Finally, all paid subscriptions are protected by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

monday.com is a very supportive company. First off, its customer support works 24/7, which you can reach by sending an email or submitting a ticket. Initiating a live chat session with a sales agent is also possible when signed in, but only if your query is related to prices and payments. monday.com is also present on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and is one of the few companies who clearly understands how successful marketing can be on TikTok.

monday.com resource page

monday.com’s support page is in a class by itself. The company has a regularly updated blog, with new articles appearing a few times a month. Blog topics include how-to guides and articles advising on project management, resource management, and so on. Moreover, the company runs live webinars four times a week and even uploads on-demand platform demo webinars in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Hebrew.

Bottom line

The online project management solutions market would be short of one extremely powerful platform if monday.com weren’t around. While the service may require some getting used to, and could benefit from budgeting and invoicing tools, it’s nonetheless a reliable solution for most companies. With its task management tools for setting up projects and the numerous other options, such as timelines, it can help workflows be as streamlined as possible. While the platform’s collaboration tools lack a few options like instant messaging, and most advanced tools aren’t available for the cheaper subscriptions, the numerous third-party integrations make up for these shortcomings. The many templates and various project views are handy to have around too. The incredibly detailed support page and the bonus that everything can be tried out for free for 14 days proves that monday.com is truly a customer-first company.
