Electronic signing documents is easy-peasy with jSign. Users upload or drag and drop a document and sign it with one of four signature types. These include drawing with a mouse or touchpad, typing and choosing one of five fonts, uploading a photo of a handwritten signature, or using an external digital sign pad. Upon completion, a document can be sent in a virtual envelope to one or various individuals.

While only one or two people – depending on the subscription – can use a single account, the number of contacts is unlimited. This means anyone can open and sign a document when they receive it, as jSign lets them access it as guests. Furthermore, users can decide who signs first and who follows, set deadlines, and send reminders when signing is overdue. Considering all this versatility, it’s surprising that jSign doesn’t support custom branding, which means that adding your company’s logo or any watermark is out of the question.

Last but not least, all major document formats are supported and can be uploaded and exported. This includes DOC, XLS, PPT, Google Docs, PDF, and even image formats like PNG and JPG. However, it’s important to note that some are unavailable for subscribers of jSign’s cheapest plan. Moreover, a document’s text can’t be edited while using jSign, but it is possible to insert custom signature fields.

jSign lets its users store documents as custom templates, making it unnecessary to repeatedly upload a frequently used document. Only three templates can be active per account simultaneously, although they can be deactivated temporarily to make room for others. Placeholders are created using a drag-and-drop design that involves inserting signatures, names, text boxes, images, and more. As a security measure, documents disappear after a day if not saved as a template, so it’s advised to upload them with the intention of sending them right away.

Unfortunately, jSign doesn’t have a database of forms to use, so customers have to acquire these elsewhere. On the flip side, the company ensures that a wide variety of industries can use the platform safely, including finance and real estate.

jSign’s level of security is second to none. It uses blockchain technology, which tracks and timestamps documents from uploading to signing. Moreover, audit trails reveal who accessed the document and whether they’ve signed it yet. Once everyone has signed, jSign issues a certificate of completion with a summary of the process, showing signers’ IP addresses, browsers, locations, and devices. Furthermore, the company doesn’t store files on its platform to protect its users’ data even more.

For improved security, it’s possible to restrict or specify signing locations. In addition, asking for two-factor authentication (2FA) from guest signers offers further protection. Accounts are also safeguarded by 2FA when enabled, which is when users receive a one-time password (OTP) via email and phone when logging in. Unfortunately, the OTP sometimes fails to arrive, making it necessary to ask for a new one.

Most importantly, signatures made through jSign are legally binding and the service is HIPAA compliant, offering extra legal protection for medical documentation. It’s also backed by major electronic signature laws like UETA and ESIGN.

jSign only has a browser version, which is a shame, as the service would benefit from a desktop application for managing documents offline. There isn’t a mobile app either, so those accessing jSign on their phones have to rely on the web version. Fortunately, jSign has a mobile-optimized website, and using the software on a phone is almost the same as on a computer. The program’s drag-and-drop design comes in handy since adding placeholders is much easier with fingers than with a mouse or touchpad.

jSign doesn’t just make signing documents effortless, but the whole program is easy to work with. Its dashboard is logically designed and well-adjusted for any user, so they don’t have to suddenly become IT experts to use it. Account customization, including the enabling of various security measures, is similarly straightforward. It’s also noteworthy that recipients don’t need a jSign account to sign a document they receive. The entire process is simple, as documents are sent directly from a jSign account, meaning downloading documents and using a third-party email client is unnecessary.

jSign supports only a handful of third-party integrations, but they significantly enhance user experience. These integrations include a variety of cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. By taking advantage of these, jSign users can import documents directly from a cloud service and move them back once finished. Moreover, jSign integrates with the text editors Google Docs and Microsoft Word, supporting their respective file formats.

Additionally, jSign offers a custom API to integrate various business-related applications into a jSign account. However, this is a costly solution and is only available in the company’s enterprise-level subscription.

Compared with other e-signature services, jSign has affordable monthly prices. However, this comes with limitations. For example, there’s no option for annual billing and subscriptions are non-refundable. Having said that, everyone can test the e-signature software by taking advantage of the 14-day free trial available. On another note, a more expensive plan typically doubles or even triples some features without doing the same to the price.

No matter the plan, users can always send documents to an unlimited number of contacts. The least expensive option lets a single user send 25 envelopes a month, allows up to 5MB files, and supports three formats: PDF, DOC, and DOCX. The customer can save and store three templates, a feature that stays the same in all three plans. A jSign Plus subscription provides 50 envelopes with 15MB of document size and upload formats for Excel, PowerPoint, and images. Furthermore, a jSign Pro subscription gives two users access and comes with a client admin portal that changes the account’s administrator. The company also offers a plan for large enterprises called jSign Corporate, the only one with API integration.

Considering how easy it is to work with jSign generally, its customer support has room for improvement. While agents are available 24/7 by phone, email, and live chat, the latter often disappears or never shows up in the first place, which requires refreshing the website more than once. However, the company’s helpful support page and detailed FAQs answer most searched queries. jSign also operates a blog where eager writers frequently post about secure signing and document editing topics. Moreover, the company has thorough step-by-step guides to help users sign different documents. To top it all off, hints also appear in accounts while inserting placeholders, providing extra guidance.
