Why you can trust us

The Best Reviews team researches and tests all products first-hand. We've been reviewing products and services since 2012 and are proud to only publish human-created content.

GetSafe is a newly founded home security company based in California. The small team behind the service decided to create something truly unique for homeowners. They offer a competent starting package of stylish alarms and sensors that can be further tailored by adding video monitoring and home automation equipment, but there are two more things that differentiate GetSafe from the competition. First, most of their alarms have secondary features, like heat detection in the motion sensors that are also pet sensitive, or the door sensors that count how many times the item was being used, even when the alarm was disarmed. The second attractive trait of GetSafe alarms is the full smartphone compatibility. The separate app allows you to schedule or disarm your defenses, and receive constant feedback from the devices. This is coupled with the fact that GetSafe won’t lock you with overly long commitments. Finally, the 14-day trial period is the icing on the cake.

$10 in savings by opting for self-monitoring
Homeowners who are confident to react in time on their own can subscribe for self-monitoring, saving $10 on the monthly fee, but giving up on the professional help.

Video cameras are an effective and essential part of a home security system. Unfortunately, they are rarely included in your starting kit, and sold separately for an extra price, not to mention some companies require you to subscribe to a more expensive monthly plan to have actual access to video monitoring tools with extra application features and cloud storage. Luckily, GetSafe is an exception. Even though they offer only two kinds of cameras, and lack a proper outdoor device, they give you one unit for free as part of the basic package. The smartphone application and the video storage are also part of every available monitoring plan.

Equipment

At the moment, GetSafe has no cameras meant for outdoor monitoring. They have two units: one is a standard motion detection camera, and the other is an HD surveillance camera. The latter is a 720dpi camera you can place and move anywhere easily as it stands on a little foot. Their prices won’t drain down your wallet, because you’ll get one HD camera for free as part of the starter pack (additional units from this type cost $149 each). The motion detection camera is only available through separate purchase, and it comes for $129 per unit.

Indoor HD camera

It’s important to note that even though your options are limited to only one camera per system when initially ordering it, this only goes for the start pack, as you can expand your monitoring network with multiple cameras, purchased separately. This camera is more suited for indoor use: it’s wireless, small, and provides crystal clear HD surveillance footage. The resolution is 1280×720, and it’s fitted with progressive scan. The camera can be placed on top of a bookshelf or table, and it uses Wi-Fi to keep constant connection with the main hub. Because of its modest environmental and humidity protection it can serve as a temporary guardian to keep an eye on the back garden, but keep in mind that it can be easily knocked over by a strong gust of wind, and you should still protect it from the hazards with some sort of cover if you want to place it outdoors.

Motion detection camera

While the indoor camera still needs to be plugged in, the motion detection camera proudly boasts its 100% wireless nature. It runs using 3 AA batteries, and it can be installed in a corner next to the door, or on the wall. The recommended height is 6.9-7.1 feet up from the floor. The setup doesn’t require dirtying your hand: thanks to the peel & stick technology, the device is up in its rightful place in minutes. The camera is capable of recording a 39.4 feet radius, with 320×240 resolutions. The motion detection camera is in sync with the smartphone app, and you can use your phone to customize the alert options and set notification triggers.

Camera monitoring

GetSafe presents homeowners two types of monitoring plans: professional monitoring and self-monitoring. Both of them come for a monthly fee, which covers full access to the company’s smartphone app and free video storage. All alarms and cameras can be managed from the downloadable iPhone and Android applications. This means that you receive instant notifications when the motion detection camera is triggered, and you can open the app to see the live feed of the HD camera any time. The application has a clear and user-friendly interface, showcasing the available cameras, their position plus the settings. The cloud storage for the video footage is part of the monitoring plan, and all recordings are kept for 30 days for free.
