Cons

Rather slim starter package

GetSafe is a newly founded home security company based in California. The small team behind the service decided to create something truly unique for homeowners. They offer a competent starting package of stylish alarms and sensors that can be further tailored by adding video monitoring and home automation equipment, but there are two more things that differentiate GetSafe from the competition. First, most of their alarms have secondary features, like heat detection in the motion sensors that are also pet sensitive, or the door sensors that count how many times the item was being used, even when the alarm was disarmed. The second attractive trait of GetSafe alarms is the full smartphone compatibility. The separate app allows you to schedule or disarm your defenses, and receive constant feedback from the devices. This is coupled with the fact that GetSafe won’t lock you with overly long commitments. Finally, the 14-day trial period is the icing on the cake.

Accidents happen all the time, and that’s why GetSafe’s monitoring team works 24/7, every single day of the year. Whether it’s in the morning while preparing breakfast or in the middle of the night while going to the bathroom, GetSafe is always there for you – holidays included. The service is UL-certified, and it’s licensed to operate in all 50 states. This way, seniors can count on accredited help anywhere.

Fall detector

Although GetSafe focuses on staying away from wearable medical alert equipment, there’s still the option to have one and add fall detector monitoring for $10 a month. Seniors can get this type of monitoring service through a wearable pendant/wristband or as a built-in feature on their GPS monitoring device. When a fall happens, the fall detector automatically connects to the monitoring center, and a care agent will check if everything is ok. If assistance is needed or no answer is given, then help is sent right away.

Tracking app for mobile

Older adults that are still active in their community should always consider having a mobile medical alert system with GPS. At home, there are already many safety hazards to be aware of, but the number increases when a senior wants to go outside for a walk or to run errands. GPS-enabled devices give the wearer’s whereabouts to both the caregiver and the monitoring team. If, for some reason, the user needs help and can’t pinpoint where they are, then care agents will still be able to send an assistance team right away. At the same time, caregivers can also download an application to get the same information for $5 a month.

Smoke detector

People worried about fire safety can also buy a smoke detector as an add-on. The user gets a real-time alert when the sensor detects smoke or fire and, if nobody is home, the monitoring center contacts the firefighters right away. The alarm is certainly loud enough at 85 dBA, but hearing-impaired seniors can be at ease as the detector also gives visual warnings. If the detector’s LED turns red, then it’s because there’s a fire somewhere in the house.

Equipment is where GetSafe shines the most, offering everything you could wish for. GetSafe’s mantra is that medical alert systems should work around you, not on you, and the company’s wide offer of products is proof of it.

In-home alert base station

As usual, GetSafe has its own sleek in-home alert base station. The equipment is aesthetically pleasing and compact, which makes it perfect for any home. It features a high-fidelity speaker and ultra-sensitive microphone, allowing two-way conversations with the monitoring team from several yards away. There’s no landline required since it runs on 4G LTE, and the battery runs for 32 hours without power.

Mobile help button

GetSafe’s 4G mobile help button design looks like an Apple product. It works anywhere within AT&T’s network, and users can adjust microphone sensitivity to ensure crystal-clear conversations with the monitoring center. The equipment comes with built-in GPS that the care agents can use to send help when the user doesn’t know their location, and since it’s water-resistant, seniors can still use it on rainy days. Furthermore, the battery runs for five days, which is perfect for a quick weekend getaway.

Voice activated mini console

The voice-activated mini console is GetSafe’s perfect accessory to have at home for seniors who don’t want to wear a button. These pieces of equipment can be placed on the walls around the house and offer various ways to ask for help. Pressing the button, pulling the cord, or just saying “call 9-1-1, call 9-1-1“ will automatically connect to a live operator.

The conversation can happen through the console since it features two-way communication.

Extra add-ons

The options don’t end there. Family members can get whatever their loved ones prefer. It’s possible to get standard wall buttons that can be pressed when assistance is needed, wearable pendants with fall detection, and lockboxes. The latter enables assistance to get into the house without having to force their way in.

Setup

Setting up the GetSafe equipment is child’s play. Since the in-home base station works with a cellular network, costumers only need to plug the device into a standard outlet and switch the power button on. When the equipment is ready to use, the lights turn green and a recorded audio is played informing the user that everything is operable.

When everything is set up you should test the product out first to ensure everything is working fine. After this step, it’s time to set up all extra equipment. To make things easier, GetSafe pairs all the bundle’s additional devices to the home station before shipping them to customers. This way, you only need to place them around the house, test them, and you’re done.

Unlike other medical alert systems, GetSafe offers the same monitoring service monthly plan for all packages, costing $24.95 per month. Users can only get a monthly billing cycle and while this cuts the possibility to save money by getting more extended subscriptions, it does offer the perk of not being bound to a contract. Customers can stop using GetSafe whenever they want without receiving any penalty whatsoever, they just need to make a quick call to GetSafe’s number 844-889-6472 to cancel their subscription.

GetSafe Standard plan

At the same time, GetSafe also doesn’t rent out its equipment, so customers need to pay for them upfront. Although this creates a steeper entry-price, the devices are yours forever and it pays off after a while. For example, on average, the monthly price for a wall button from the competition is $3 per month. At GetSafe, a wall button costs $35, which means that after a year, you’re getting your money back. The only leased equipment is the built-in GPS mobile device that has the high cost of $30 per month.

Plans

There are three separate packages that the customer can opt for, built for different house sizes. The standard package is the entry tier, costs $99, and contains one voice-activated console and one wall button. The most popular is the standard plan built for houses with two or three bedrooms: for $229, the customer gets a home station, two voice-activated consoles, and three wall buttons. Last but not least, it’s also possible to get the higher tier for $190 more and get one extra voice-activated console, two additional standard wall button, and one lockbox. All of the plans come with a home station to make everything work and a free vial of life. Furthermore, all equipment comes with a one-year warranty.

GetSafe pricing

Customers can add extra equipment at the checkout or build their own medical system. However, we advise you to go for the bundles already in place since it offers the devices at a lower price. For example, if you would get the same equipment for the standard package by building your own system, it would be $100 more expensive. Regardless of the way you build your system, GetSafe comes with a 30-day risk-free trial that you can use to test the product first and see if it’s right for you. If not, then your money will be fully refunded.

GetSafe Customer Support

It seems that GetSafe updated its service faster than its website. While most of the site already addresses the medical alert system, some essential pages still refer to the now obsolete home security system, such as the FAQ section. This way, potential clients that have questions need to get in touch with the customer support team. To do so, they can turn to social media – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – or dial the company’s toll-free number 844-889-6472. On the bright side, GetSafe offers a few neat video tutorials explaining how to install your equipment. The videos are clear and easy to follow and can be found on the website.

Bottom line

If you’re looking for a reliable medical alert system, GetSafe will do the trick – especially if your loved one is completely against wearing any type of medical alert equipment. The voice-activated consoles are pretty neat and perfect to have near the places where an accident is more likely to happen. Entry-prices might be a little higher than usual, but buying the equipment compensates in the long run, and you’ll be saving money before you realize. However, the cost of the built-in GPS mobile button is too expensive. The device’s monthly rent combined with the monitoring service monthly fee costs $55 per month, which is far more expensive compared to the competition. The website should also be updated as soon as possible since newcomers unaware of GetSafe’s past business will become confused while visiting the FAQ. Nevertheless, people interested in GetSafe should contact the company’s number 844-889-6472 and start their 30 days risk-free trial to find out if it’s the right medical alert system for them.
