All customers can enjoy professional installation and free activation when installing a Vivint home security system.
Home security company Ring is highly regarded for their smart doorbell camera that lets homeowners see and hear anyone approaching their door through their phone screen. Over time, Ring expanded its arsenal with Stick Up Cameras to help fortify other parts of the house as well. At this point, you might ask why isn’t Ring creating a full home security package? Well, it seems that the company had the same realization, as they finally decided to throw their hat in the ring with Protect, which unites all available home defense solutions into one convenient kit.
The Ring Protect bundle features a base station, a keypad (for manually arming and disarming the system), a window/door sensor, a motion detector and a Z-Wave extender that allows the integration of additional Ring products all around the home. The system was designed in the name of DIY, therefore the alarms can be set up wherever you want without complicated installation. However, we are saddened by the fact that the basic kit doesn’t include the company’s titular doorbell camera. On the same note, the bundle is a bit slim on content – only one door/window contact sensor, really? – meaning you’ll be forced to buy additional alarms and cameras to fully cover your property.
On the plus side, Ring is an experienced provider when it comes to home automation and smartphone integration. The existing camera system was designed to share snapshots and video footage through the app, which is now upgraded to handle the full system. The alarms can be turned on and off through a single tap, not to mention many other smart features. Currently the starting kit costs $199 and can be pre-ordered from the company’s website. If you already own any Ring products then they can also be seamlessly integrated to the Protect network.
Of course, no home security system can be complete without a monitoring service. Ring offers professional protection for $10 per month, or one easy payment of $100 for the annual plan. In exchange, you’ll receive access to unlimited cloud video storage and the aforementioned 24/7 corporate monitoring. This is a generous deal, considering that cloud support is a premium feature with other providers. Still, if you aren’t fond of monthly fees and long-term contractual commitments, it is possible to still opt for self-monitoring instead. In this case, the base station sends alarm notifications right to your phone.
We welcome Ring’s entry into the field of home security services, and we are curious what kind of new packages and offers the company has in store for homeowners.
