Remarkable Resumes: When Creativity Earns You a Job

Remarkable Resumes: When Creativity Earns You a Job

Unless you are a masochist, looking for a job and sending tons of resumes to different places (only to get rejected in approximately 90% of the cases) is a nightmare. Furthermore, due to the constant race between applicants, it is mandatory to make your resume stand out from the rest in any way possible. But sometimes, not even the miracles of online resume building can help: you have to go one step beyond.

In what follows we will present you some incredibly creative resume ideas that landed jobs for their creators. Some of them are rather extreme, but they are, nonetheless, proofs that when it comes to job hunting, creativity can be the ultimate deciding factor for recruiters.

Build your dreams

Everybody knows that LEGO is the epitome of creativity. So why not use it for job hunting? When being asked to produce a persuasive way to prove that she is the ideal candidate for an account service internship at a creative ad agency, Leah Bowman simply created an “intern set”, a real life version of herself in LEGO (pardon us, LEAH) bricks, alongside a LEGO assembly manual-like resume.

A sweet job

In this case the first thing that comes to our mind is the wise words of Forrest Gump’s mom: “Life is like a box of chocolates”. Apparently Nicholas, a marketing professional, took these words so seriously, he actually got some Nestlé crunch bars and created customized wrapping therefor. But instead of the usual things like the brand name/logo, ingredients’ list etc. Nicholas put his own resume on the packaging – while still keeping the original appearance of a casual candy bar. According to Nick’s friend, who originally posted the candy bar resume on Reddit, Nicholas got the job he was looking for.

The importance of good material

We have an entire article about different resume papers, which can indeed be decisive factors in landing you a job. But picking a white material as a base of your resume, ironing on the necessary info (the actual CV) to said material and then sewing it onto colorful handkerchiefs is a different story. Although we don’t think that graphic designer Melissa Washin’s idea is the best way of conveying the necessary information, it is creative nonetheless.

The Power of Amazon

Amazon is a site used and adored by millions, so it is not surprising that you would immediately recognize it when it appears. This was in the mind of Philippe Dubost, a web product manager who created a website that looks exactly like an Amazon product page, but instead it contains his resume. The Amazon copy page is so disturbingly accurate and so creative, it actually got Philippe 1.5 million views, 150 job offers and, eventually, a job as tech product manager at Birchbox.

Straight to the Point

Don’t get us wrong, this resume should not be an example of a good and creative CV, since it’s a desperate call from a very desperate job seeker. (And sounding desperate is a leading reason for being rejected.) But even we have to value Troy’s brutal honesty.
