True lovers know that every day spent together is a holiday. But without doubt the highlight of the year for couples is Valentine’s Day.
It’s the perfect occasion not just to spend quality time together, but also to celebrate your love for each other with a gift. A box of chocolate and a bouquet of flowers are mandatory, but, sadly, they won’t last forever.
One thing, however, can serve as an even better gift and the ultimate, everlasting testament of your love: a love-themed photo book.
When it comes to the physical attributes of your love-themed photo book, you have to find the golden mean. In other words, anything goes regarding the overall appearance of the book, provided that it represents the two of you, without going to extremes. Therefore, think in neat books which are close to the ideal (and usually preferred) 8×8 size, have a square or landscape shape, and a cover made out of finer materials like leather, linen or fabric (although a simple hard cover with an outstanding picture is also a good choice).
The theme must be strictly love related or at least should contain elements attributed to love in general. Almost every photo book company, especially the bigger ones (like Mixbook, Shutterfly, AdoramaPix just to name a few) have book themes dedicated entirely to love. If you can’t find such a theme, don’t worry, because you can always build a book out of family-themed photo books (since a couple is a quasi-family) or blank books, and add love-themed stickers, backgrounds etc. later.
Pictures are basically the soul of these books and thankfully you can choose anything starting from the date you met that features you and your loved one separately or together. Younger couples can choose the top moments of their life together, while long-term couples can use a format in which they tell the story of their love from the very beginning till the “happily ever after” (think a fairy tale book without an ending). In fact, if you’re already married to your loved one and have children, you can include that as well – just be sure that each moment gets the proper attention and treatment on the strictly non-overcrowded pages.
Although not mandatory, captions can add a lot to a Valentine’s Day photo book. Furthermore, unlike in other cases during where we highly discourage readers to use clichéd quotations, love-themed photo books can contain anything that describes your love: quotes from either of you, a famous person, and lines from a poem, a novel or even a song. These are great to give extra context to the moments captured in the photos, which helps to make them all the more lively in your memory. For other people who get the privilege to view your Valentine’s Day photo book, the captions make it easier to get a sense of how those moments shaped your love relationship.
The proper presentation of a love-themed photo book is crucial, therefore gift vouchers and giving the book in a plain cardboard box is a no-no! A well-designed photo book (accompanied by flowers, chocolate or a dinner at your favorite place/fancy restaurant) can “sell” itself and sometimes even the intention is enough to convince your other half you truly love him/her.
If you prefer a more sophisticated presentation, remember that you can always opt for gift wrapping or a gift box that goes with the format and style of your photo book.
