It’s impossible for parents to monitor their children’s activities all the time, especially when it comes to the internet. Naturally, parents need some help along the way, and this is where Mobicip comes in. Since 2008, the California-based company has been helping parents keep their kids safe online thanks to its advanced blocking and filtering capabilities. Parents are able to block social media apps, video streaming software, and games to keep children safe and focused on their schoolwork. Mobicip also allows you to track your child’s location (as well as create geofences) so you can be reassured they’re safe and sound. One really appealing aspect of Mobicip is its price, which starts from just $4.99 per month to cover up to ten devices. Users can also test out the service first by taking advantage of the limited free version or 7-day trial.

Mobicip’s dashboard is intuitive to navigate so you won’t have any issues setting it up. The activity page will give you an overview of your child’s internet use and you can click on each window to get more detailed information. There’s also a message tab where you’ll get regular alerts, such as access requests and removed devices.

On the family page you can extensively configure parental control settings. This includes some unique features like having Mobicip deactivate when a child uses a certain IP address – ideal for when connecting to an already protected network (like the school internet). Mobicip also comes with a user-friendly website blocker. The best place to start is going over the platform’s premade web categories, which range from advertisements and shopping to mature content. But the part we like the most is that you can configure these filters in detail by allowing and excluding specific websites.

It’s impressive how quickly the Mobicip dashboard updates, letting you see the latest websites visited, videos watched, and search history almost immediately. We also like that you can easily access the ‘family time’ button, which blocks all devices for a set amount of time. One small issue we did find was with the search history – while it picked up our searches with Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo, it didn’t register any searches we made using Startpage. Of course, parents are far too busy to be constantly checking the dashboard, and thankfully Mobicip offers the option of activating email reports about their child’s online activities.

There’s no way around the fact that social media is a great way to connect with others. However, it also hides various hazards, such as cyberbullying and strangers passing for kids. With Mobicip, you can keep an eye on your child’s social media interactions. The software lets you monitor Facebook and Instagram on all devices and Snapchat on Android. Unfortunately, this means that the platform can’t help you with other popular channels, such as TikTok and Twitter.

Mobicip also makes it easy for you to block access to social media apps altogether. It only takes one click to safeguard your kids from the dangers lurking on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, as well as any other apps found on the App and Play Stores.

But continuously changing these settings is tiresome. You may want to have Mobicip block some apps and websites during schooltime but allow them during your child’s leisure time. That’s where the scheduling tool comes in. Here, you can organize your kid’s day in detail and give them access to certain apps or websites depending on the hour and day of the week. Plus, the platform comes with an easy way to create a different schedule for vacations, when your children don’t need to do as much schoolwork.

Device support

Mobicip offers support for a wide range of devices including macOS, Windows, Android, iOS, Kindle, and Chromebook. Setting up Mobicip on mobile is an easy process, with the ability to scan a QR code to log in. The service is able to monitor online activity on mobile devices by using its own VPN to track traffic. Despite this, we didn’t notice any significant slowdown in our internet activity. In addition to blocking and unblocking applications, parents will get alerts whenever a child installs a new app. Mobicip also tracks the device’s GPS so parents know the location of their children via the dashboard, and it’s also possible to create geofences. This allows you, for example, to get an alert every time your kid arrives and leaves school. Unlike many other parental control solutionsMobicip doesn’t have any issues working on iOS devices, still offering most monitoring features.

Pricing

When compared to other parental control software, Mobicip offers low prices. There are two paid subscriptions: Standard and Premium. The more expensive the service gets, the higher the number of accessible features and connected devices. The Standard plan – $4.99 per month – already offers a decent number of parental control tools and supports up to ten devices connected simultaneously. Meanwhile, the Premium plan costs $7.99 per month with a yearly subscription but provides social media monitoring and supports up to 20 devices. Families that need to monitor even more pieces of equipment can contact Mobicip to get a custom quote.

It’s important to mention that Mobicip offers a free version of its platform. Even though it’s quite limited, it’s good enough for parents who want to filter internet access to only one device, such as a shared computer. Additionally, it’s also possible to try out the more advanced features by taking advantage of the 7-day free trial. While it’s necessary to share your payment details, the company won’t charge you if you cancel your account within the first week.

Mobicip offers support via email and phone. For the former, you can directly email your questions or use the online contact form. While it’s not as good as having a live chat, responses are swift and usually take just a few hours. When it comes to calling the company, Mobicip works on an appointment basis. So, you can schedule the date and time that is best for you, and a customer support agent will reach out to you accordingly. Alternatively, it’s possible to get support via Mobicip’s online forum – a great place to read other parents’ experiences with the software.

Of course, it’s always worth checking Mobicip’s helpdesk. Here, you’ll find guides on all aspects of the service, including an extensive FAQ section. The guides are well written, with plenty of screenshots and videos to help you follow instructions. For even more content, it’s worth checking out Mobicip’s YouTube channel, which includes even more tutorials and videos about parenting. Mobicip also has its own blog and social media profiles, which are regularly updated with all the latest news concerning parenting in the digital age.

Bottom line

In a competitive market, Mobicip stands out for its wide range of features and ease of use. The service especially shines when it comes to monitoring mobile devices, with the ability to block software and an extra emphasis on social media and video apps. We like being able to have the service turn itself off when the device is connected to a specific IP address – ideal for allowing kids to connect to the internet at school. The GPS tracking and geofencing are also useful features for any parent concerned about their child’s whereabouts. One minor issue we had is the limited methods of communication with Mobicip’s customer support team – we’d love the addition of a live chat for an easier interaction. However, Mobicip does offer some helpful setup guides and the online forums are a valuable source of information. When you combine everything that Mobicip has to offer with its competitive pricing, you get a superb option for parents who want to make sure their children stay safe online.
