Creating a photo book, using your own pictures and ideas, is always fun. Adding all those pictures, choosing covers, paper types, book sizes/shapes and other upgrades quickly takes up a large chunk of your time and your wallet. Using Groovebook is very easy, as it only requires downloading the iOS/Android app and the creation of a Groovebook account. (Unfortunately you cannot use your Shutterfly account to do that.) You also have to provide your credit/debit card data to set up the automatic billing of $2.99 plus taxes every month with free shipping within the U.S. until you cancel your account for good.
Once done, you just have to pick at least 40 but not more than 100 pictures from your mobile device; anything that is on your mobile’s memory/SD card goes. Just be sure to pick the maximum 100 picture per book, otherwise Groovebook will fill your book with duplicates of the included photos to fill the entirety of the book – unless you intentionally include copies. When you are done selecting the photos, you just have to review your book, hit order and voilà, your 4×6 book with a surprise cover will arrive within 17–20 business days. So while you don’t need to spend much time on creating your photo book, you do need some patience for it to arrive in your hands.
What do we mean by surprise cover? The reason why creating a Groovebook photo book is so much fun: every month the company wraps your photo book in different covers, so you only learn what you get in the very last moment. The only thing that is consistent in each cover is the spine: it has the initials of all the months with the current month emphasized in some way.
To make things even groovier, even the pages of your book are special. Not only do they have the date and location of each photo, but they are also perforated. This means you can simply tear pictures from the book and put the pictures in a frame, on the fridge or give them to others as gifts.
