Our pets have certainly taught us a very important lesson: they have no thoughts about the past. Or the future. They “carpe diem” (“seize the day”) in all that the present has to offer and just enjoy the miracle of being alive. Four-legged friends enjoy the moment especially when their parents insure them with a provider like Figo Pet Insurance. With an extremely friendly website, the company has three insurance plans. The basic one is Essential, covering accident and illness treatments, including veterinary exams, chronic conditions, and advanced cancer treatments. The most popular plan is the Preferred one, offering more comprehensive coverage. Finally, there is the Ultimate plan, which also covers emergency vacation cancellation and death. All plans have customizable reimbursements that can even reach 100%. The company does not provide wellness plans and it has an online app called Pet Cloud where parents have 24/7 access to a live vet.
Figo Pet Insurance has three straightforward, simple plans that are designed only for dogs and cats. The first one is called Essential. It has a $10,000 yearly payment limit and it covers injuries and illnesses like knee conditions, hereditary and congenital conditions, and advanced cancer treatments.
The second, and most popular plan, is Preferred, with a yearly cap of $14,000. It offers more complex coverage, such as emergency boarding fees and your pet getting lost. The third insurance plan is the Ultimate one, with unlimited caps. In addition to the conditions covered by the first two plans, Ultimate also provides coverage for emergency vacation cancellation and death.
The provider can cover vet exam fees for accidents and illnesses as an add-on, which is a little confusing, since some of its competitors offer that as part of the main plans or others don’t offer it at all. Figo Pet Insurance provides its plans for dogs and cats who are at least eight weeks of age, with no maximum age limit. However, if a policy is renewed for a dog who is at least eight years of age, or a cat who is at least ten years old, the company will require the pet parent to follow their veterinarian’s recommendations related to senior wellness testing.
The company does not provide coverage for preexisting conditions, which is not a world premiere, since most pet insurance companies do the same. However, the provider states that it might wave a preexisting condition if the company establishes that it’s a curable one and it has not shown signs or symptoms in the 12 months prior to enrollment.
Figo does not cover wellness care plans, either, which is a big downside of this pet insurance provider, since most of its competitors do offer this type of coverage as an add-on or even as separate plans. Figo offers its readers an interesting blog with advice and information, as well as the Pet Cloud app, full of useful features.
This app also enables the connection to the Live Vet 24/7 feature, which gives owners direct access to a licensed veterinarian. The app itself showcases Figo’s commitment to “do pet insurance differently”, since it initially started as part of Google’s Tech Hub Network.
Claims with Figo can be filed electronically via email, the Figo Pet Cloud app, or fax. In order to file a claim via the app, all you have to do is log into your account from any device, answer all the questions, attach a copy of the vet invoice, and then submit it. In order for the claim to be processed, the company will ask for your pet’s medical records. Therefore, your vet will have to send the firm the previous two years of medical records and notes.
The claim process takes anywhere from 24 hours to three weeks. In order to speed up this process, it is recommended that you get your pet’s medical history, including vet’s notes, prior to filling a claim. This way, Figo has these documents on hand when the claim has been filed. However, this is an optional procedure.
Reimbursements from Figo are paid electronically (as direct deposits). In case of an emergency where direct payment to the vet is required, that very much depends on your vet, namely, if he or she agrees to direct vet payment. If they do, the vet will have to file a W9 form and Figo will have to contact a practice or office manager.
Pet insurance prices with Figo vary depending on the species, breed, chosen plan, selected annual deductible, and reimbursement level. Deductibles with this provider are only annual, which implies that they’re paid just once a year if the pet needs a treatment.
For other treatments that the pet will receive that year, the deductible will no longer have to be paid. The first two plans, Essential and Preferred, have a $10,000 and $14,000 cap respectively, while the Ultimate one has an unlimited cap. Compared to its competitors, Figo Pet Insurance’s pricing can appear less attractive. However, it does offer a set of advantages which justifies the prices, as well as the possibility of being 100% reimbursed, something you don’t see often with pet insurance providers.
The company offers a 5% discount for medical service dogs, a 10% discount for enrolling multiple pets, another 10% reduction for veterans and serving military staff, as well as a 10% discount for students and veterinary staff. Pets adopted from shelters or rescues can also benefit from discounts. These discounts, however, are only available in certain states.
Figo Pet Insurance has a $9 one-time administrative fee for each policy which is non-refundable in case of cancellation in most states. The provider offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. It consists of a full refund if cancellation is requested within the first 30 days of the policy, if no claim was submitted.

Yoda’s Insurance Plans With Figo Pet Insurance
In order to enroll your furry family member with Figo, it is necessary to go on the company’s website. You’ll quickly fill in your pet’s details and you will receive quotes for the three plans. After you choose the plan, the reimbursement rate, and the preferred deductible, you can also choose to add the veterinary exam fee coverage to your plan, which will also be added into the final monthly premium.
Finally, after answering a brief set of other questions related to your pet’s medical history, you will be directed to a page detailing different aspects related to payment. It’s that simple. Cancellation is possible at any time by contacting Figo via email or telephone. A cancellation request via email has to be submitted.
Downgrades and upgrades are also possible with Figo Pet Insurance. In order to upgrade a plan, a new Declaration Page or endorsement showing the pet’s level of coverage has to be issued. The new deductible and co-payment could also apply if the coverage is changed.
With Figo Pet Insurance, customer service is very rapid and helpful. Contact with this department is available via email or live chat from the company’s website or Facebook page. You can get in touch with them from Monday to Friday from 8am to 7pm CST, on Saturday from 8am to 6pm CST, and Sunday from 11am to 3pm CST, via text only.
Figo has a helpful FAQ page, and besides Facebook, it is also present on Twitter and Instagram. It also has a blog with interesting posts and a few explanatory videos on its website. The provider is rated with a B+ by the BBB, which represents BBB’s level of confidence that the firm conducts its business in a trustworthy way and that it does its best to resolve customer concerns that were filed with the BBB.
Figo Pet Insurance offers three straightforward plans with customizable, annual deductibles and reimbursements that can reach up to 100%. Although the company does not offer wellness plans, it does provide vet exams as an optional add-on. In case of emergencies, direct vet payment can be made available if the vet approves it.
All in all, Figo is very explicit about the types of conditions it covers. It also provides its clients with the Pet Cloud app where they can find other pet owners, look for pet facilities and services in their areas, talk to a licensed vet 24/7, and download or save pet docs.
The provider has an interesting set of discounts for different situations, however they are unfortunately not available in all states. For pet owners looking to provide their four-legged children with a simple, straightforward plan, Figo Pet Insurance is definitely worth taking into consideration.

My dog Teddy had kennel cough when we adopted him. He saw the vet 5 times for treatment. During that time the vet made notes on observations unrelated to the treatment. When Teddy had surgery for a French bulldog hereditary issue the company said pre existing. The insurance is useless unless your pet is involved in an accident and even then given their track record they would probably try to find a way to reject the claim. Don’t insure your pet with them
Hello Mary, and thank you for your comment. We’re sorry to hear about your experience with Figo Pet. Could you please provide more information on what happened? Did Figo Pet reject the payment of the surgery due to a hereditary issue? Hope you have a nice day and that Teddy is feeling ok.
