Alarm.com Teams up with Qualcomm for Intelligent Guardian Drones

Alarm.com has always been a pioneer of the home and business security industry and is doing well in keeping up its innovation pace. Among others, they revolutionized the smart home world by developing an application that manages all alarms and sensors, a solution used by many of the top rated home security systems we’ve reviewed. However, their latest innovation may very well elevate home security to a brand new level. Hand in hand with the drone and wireless hardware manufacturer Qualcomm, Alarm.com unveiled their latest learning software at CES 2017, which is capable of enhancing home protection with camera-equipped drones.

Are drones the future?

Even though we strongly believe that monitoring your home with cameras is the most responsible course of action at the moment – just the mere presence of a camera scares away petty thieves – it pales in comparison to a full-fledged drone-enhanced security system. The idea is simple: Alarm.com’s Insight Engine constantly keeps tabs on the status of the property via the vast array of sensors and alarms. In case an anomaly is detected – that can be either an attempted home invasion, fire, or water flooding – the system sends out multiple autonomous drones to investigate, which are all fitted with cameras, capable of streaming live footage to your phone. Naturally, the video data can be easily shared with the staff at the monitoring center or even with the police and emergency services.

Intelligent apps are the key

Alarm.com pledges to protect our property with the help of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Flight drones, a technology debuted at last year’s CES show. These little quadcopters are known to easily maneuver around the house on their own thanks to their refined learning system, and are able to carry a camera to record live footage from above. Speaking of learning technology, the Insight Engine’s greatest achievement is that the app is designed to sort and catalogue the data flow delivered by the sensors. In other words, the app is capable of memorizing the resident’s habits, and spot unusual activities. Thus, even if a burglar manages to disarm the alarms, the sensors still pick up signs of entrance in an unexpected time, prompting the Snapdragon Flight drones to take off and investigate, delivering a nasty surprise for the perpetrator.
