Speedy Resume, which is a UK-based resume builder founded in 2015, is ideal for those who want to quickly prepare and even duplicate professional looking CVs in the cloud. All your resumes and even the cover letter attached thereto can be customized with the help of 15 templates, many fonts and font colors, and the section arrangement option, making your CV stand out from the rest. Whether you are using your browser from your computer or your tablet, once you are ready you can easily send of your resume to your would-be employer by email or social media, but you can also download or print it in a jiffy. The company provides its services for free or, if you need all features, for a monthly/annual subscription fee, which can be reduced by 50% for the first payment period or be refunded within 7 days, should you wish to cancel your account. And if you need help you can turn to the customer support available 24/7 or you can buy handy eBooks for additional fees.
As of June 2020, Speedy Resume is no longer available.
Once you have created your account you are greeted by a very simple, user-friendly interface in which you can see your dashboard with your latest resumes, statistics which show you how many people have checked your CV on the internet, your details and the job search engine powered by ZipRecruiter.
The dashboard is the most important part where you can create new resumes from scratch, or share, print, download, duplicate or even delete the existing ones. Each resume is automatically saved by the software after each modification, so you can always continue from where you left off. Unfortunately you cannot upload existing resumes from your computer; everything has to be done within Speedy Resume. Furthermore, the resume builder does not have a built-in spell-checker (the company recommends you to use the spell-checker of a third-party service), you don’t have an auditing option unless you google it, and you cannot attach media files to your resume. However, the company announced that pre-written phrases will soon be available for resumes, even though no release date is specified therefor.
Thankfully, you have the option to create and add cover letters to your resumes; if you do so, you will get a nice cover letter template which you just have to fill with some necessary data and the text addressing your would-be employer. Furthermore, the cover letter uses the same font as your resume, adding another item to the list of customizable features.
The job search engine is very simple: you just have to fill out the type and place of the job you are looking for, and after a quick search you can already start studying the search results. But keep in mind that you cannot directly apply for a job from Speedy Resume; you always have to go the page where the desired job is offered.
When you sign up for Speedy Resume’s services, you are asked to provide your name, your email address, and, if you want a resume right away, your previous/current work experience and education. So the first thing you will see is your CV which you can send right away to your future employer by mail, social media or via application form.
However, you also have the option to create a CV manually, which might take more time, but the final result will still be the same. The only downside of creating a resume from scratch is that every time you want to enter new data in the text boxes, the default texts are not automatically deleted.
Due to the auto save feature and its simple, user-friendly interface, creating a nice-looking, professional resume is very easy whether you are using the company’s services from the browser of your computer or tablet.
If you have chosen the regular subscription, and not the free of charge plan, you can choose from 15 different templates from the simpler ones with the regular resume structure to those templates that use columns to distinguish certain parts of your CV. Furthermore, the paid plan also allows you to change the default fonts, and you can change the color of said fonts too – although the company does not recommend using vivid colors, because some employers still print out resumes in black and white.
Once you have chosen your template, the font and its color, you can start arranging the sections of your resume – with the exception of the header which is fixed. You can add 11 sections in total including work history, education, social media links, interests, references and an unlimited number of text sections for miscellaneous information.
The pricing structure of Speedy Resume is very simple, because each plan allows you to download and host an unlimited number of resumes, you can get access to the job search engine, the hints & tips option which can be turned on when you write your resume, and access to the customer support. However, the Free plan only allows you to use one template which can utilize one font in black. If you want to choose from the maximum amount of 15 templates, change the font and its color, you have to subscribe to the Pro pricing plan. You can pay $11.90 per month if you choose the annual plan or $19.90 per month if you choose the monthly subscription, which is not advertized on the site at all. However, as a new client you get 50% off of your subscription fee for the initial term of your subscription, you have a 7-day money back guarantee and you can buy additional services in the form of eBooks.
Speedy Resume offers four payment options: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal. Keep in mind that unless you contact the company to change the pricing plan or cancel your account, your subscription is continuously and automatically renewed after each subscription term.
The general support of Speedy Resume is pretty good: even though the company provides telephone assistance from the U.S., the UK and Australia, it is highly recommended to use the 24/7 live chat option or contact the company by email. No matter which one of the latter support types you choose, they will get back to you promptly with professional answers.
You can also get help from the help center which is full of different FAQs regarding billing, the software etc, a knowledge base, and you can also read some tips about how to create the perfect resume – although this option is available as a built-in feature to begin with. Other than these support options, you can read Speedy Resume’s blog with further tips on writing the perfect resume and/or contact the company via its always up-to-date Facebook, Twitter and Google+ page.
Despite being only founded in 2015, Speedy Resume is perfect for those who want nothing more than creating a simple, yet professional looking resume without downloading anything. However, the company still has some issues that could be annoying: it does not advertize its monthly subscription fee properly and it lacks a built-in spell-checker, the resume auditing and media file attachment option, and mobile phone applications. Unfortunately you can only download your resume in PDF and you cannot upload existing CVs from your computer either.
Still, no matter whether you choose the free of charge version or subscribe to the cost-friendly Pro pricing plan, Speedy Resume does a stellar job in helping you create your resumes with many nice looking templates, built-in hints & tips, easy-to-create cover letters, quick and always available customer support, extra support in the form of eBooks, and its quick job search engine.
