Overview comparison for Scout Alarm, SimpliSafe

Scout Alarm

Scout Alarm is a security system that was brought to life from the dream of several security engineers and designers with the help of crowdfunding. On the surface, Scout Alarm sensors sport a fabulous design and come in three colors to match the interior of your rooms. But the look doesn’t compromise their effectiveness: all sensors communicate wirelessly thanks to the 3G cellular network, and their plug and play nature allows you to install them without tools. Beside the necessary hub station, homeowners can arm themselves with a motion sensor, a door panel that comes with a free RFID sticker, and a small access sensor that sticks to any object and is triggered when moved. This burglar-repellent equipment is complemented with a smartphone application available for all major mobile operating systems. It not only provides push notifications for the self-monitoring, but also manages a large range of smart devices. You see, Scout Alarm is compatible with several home automation brands. From Nest they bring the camera, the smart thermostat and the smoke/CO detector, and they also offer different smart light bulbs from Philips Hue and LIFX. Still, the most interesting addition is the Amazon Echo voice assistant, which manages all your defenses via voice commands.

SimpliSafe

SimpliSafe is a home security system manufactured under the roof of the company with the same name. Their main intention is to protect the customer’s home from any dangers, ranging from home invasions to environmental hazards such as fire or carbon monoxide leaking. All sensors cover a range of 400 feet and they are wireless, thus you can install them at any point of your rooms. The setup is made easier by the fact that SimpliSafe prefers the DIY way, which means that the equipment is fully portable and the installation doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes. As for the equipment categories, SimpliSafe has everything you need: motion sensors, entry sensors, keypads, keychains, and sirens. The only things missing are the security cameras. The home defense safety net wouldn’t be worth much without a 24/7 monitoring service, although it’s possible to choose self-monitoring. The latter option is strengthened by the free smartphone application, available to download for iOS and Android phones. In case an alarm is triggered, you’ll receive an instant email, SMS or push notification.

Conclusion

Scout Alarm and SimpliSafe share several traits. They both emphasize DIY installation, they offer alarms and sensors manufactured in-house, and they present customers with a reliable smartphone application that sends a notification when an alarm is triggered. They even let you off the leash in terms of the monitoring service, as customers can choose not to pay the monthly fee and monitor the system on their own. What actually differentiates them is their pricing. Scout Alarm forsakes the idea of creating packages and encourages customers to tailor their system according to their needs. SimpliSafe, on the other hand, offers five different pre-made packages, with an increasing degree of content and price. With Scout Alarm you must purchase each equipment piece ranging from $29 to $129, plus the monthly fee that starts from $9.99 per month. The most budget-friendly SimpliSafe package costs $229.96, while the monitoring fee is $14.99 per month.
