New Dating Service Loveflutter BLUE Launched for Twitter-Verified Singles

Let us tell you a secret: after dealing with so many topics, we’ve come to the realization that online dating is a Janus-faced entity. People have very polarizing opinions about it; some regard it as a convenient way to meet a large pool of potential partners, while others only see the downsides and disappointments. As a matter of fact, we’ve covered several bad dating habits, including kittenfishingcatfishing and ghosting. A large chunk of these problems boil down to poor authentication and the lack of monitoring from the admins, who let scammers and fake accounts run rampant on the sites, ruining the experience for others. Lovefluttera Tinder-like dating app, seems to have found a unique way to guarantee authenticity and group together status-conscious daters by creating a service exclusive to Twitter verified singles.

Meet Loveflutter BLUE

Loveflutter is a new generation of dating apps that uses your phone’s GPS to find potential matches, presenting your partner’s profile photo and a short funny description to raise the interest level. But instead of swiping horizontally, here you must swipe vertically as a means of making your decision, so it’s totally different from Tinder. The real reason the spotlight is on Loveflutter is because it is getting a new service called BLUE.

The premise is simple: while the basic community is open for everyone and you don’t even need a Twitter account to register, BLUE is like the VIP section where only celebrities and internet personalities can enter, showing the bouncer the blue check mark on their profile. Since the site already promotes the idea of using Twitter account for registration, the authentication won’t be a big deal.

Joining a private room full of Twitter verified netizens is an attractive offer. First and foremost, forget the malicious con-men and fakers because the blue symbol is clear proof that you’re dealing with the real deal. Although the site advertises itself as means to privately date celebrities, official records pointed out that only 25 percent of the blue checkmark owners are actual stars, and the rest of them are either internet personalities, pundits, YouTubers or straight-up Twitter celebs only known by their niche audience. But the fact that Twitter now allows non-famous people to verify themselves works to your advantage, since there will now be a bigger pool to fish from. Not to mention that the social-cultural gap might be a bit too big between you and Taylor Swift, but imagine meeting someone with the same mindset and passion for tweeting. Comparing your Twitter accounts is also a great ice breaker.

A good concept that might fail eventually

We’re sorry to tank your spirit, but before getting too excited there are some drawbacks you should hear about. First of all, the blue checkmark protects you from fake profiles but not from heartbreaks. Just because someone is verified on Twitter, doesn’t mean they are devoid of other dating missteps, such as lying, leaving you hanging for no apparent reason or dropping you in favor of someone hotter. Secondly, this VIP service may turn out to be a lightning rod for immature attention-addicts, who only care about their public image and follower ratio, ruining the intimate atmosphere required for matchmaking.

It also goes without saying that there is no clear guarantee that big name celebrities will use BLUE.

Last but not least, BLUE hasn’t gained much momentum yet. Currently the registration is free, but later on there will be a monthly fee. There is also the problem of geo-based matchmaking, which is further restricted down to members who are also Twitter verified. Considering that the total number is between 150,000 and 200,000, chances are high you won’t get a single match outside of major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Tokyo.
