Going against one of the best photo book companies is not an easy task. But with clever solutions, that task doesn’t seem to be impossible anymore – and this is what Blurb has against Mixbook. Despite their many similarities regarding book shapes, sizes, cover types, pricing and even certain features, they each have their unique solutions to convince customers. Mixbook offers a simple online editor with countless customization options and a great variety of coupons and discounts. Blurb has two editors, the option to convert your book in various formats and a shipping policy guaranteeing fast delivery.
Seeing the latter, it is clear that Mixbook faces with a worthy competitor. But does Blurb have a chance against a market leader or will it fail? Let’s find out!

Mixbook’s online editor is a simple, straightforward and almost pitch-perfect solution for everyone, including your contributors. Whether you work alone or not, you have an astonishing range of choices regarding customization: such things are the goofy stickers and the selection of circa 300 themes, which you can change before and during the editing process. To avoid ordering a faulty product, your works are auto-saved, your captions are spell-checked, and you get low-resolution photo warnings. Speaking of photos, they can be easily auto-filled into various layouts and/or be adjusted in many ways. As for the backgrounds, multiple ones can be used throughout the entire book without deleting the chosen theme’s default settings.
Variety is also the key phrase when it comes to the overall appearance of a Mixbook photo book: they can be ordered in 3 shapes, 7 sizes, 5 cover types with regular or layflat pages, and can be more or less freely combined with each other. And to make things better, you can get all of the above for affordable prices with fast (global) shipping while also being entitled to receive countless coupons and discounts, for example on bulk orders and gift cards.
Blurb enters the ring with two editors: Bookify, the online version, and BookWright, the downloadable software. The former is an optimal choice for you if you need a book quickly and you are satisfied with basic customization options. The latter is basically a more advanced version of Bookify, but it can import all projects therefrom, and it provides all designs and layouts, alongside advanced features like true text boxes, spell-checking and a clever price estimator. But no matter which version you choose, you get the auto-save and safe-zones features, and the option to share your book, download it in PDF or even turning it into eBook format. Aside from the above, all Blurb books can contain up to 440 pages (the minimum amount thereof is 20) and can be printed in 5 sizes and 3 shapes, with 3 covers.
The company has a rather average pricing policy, but it is easily compensated by a fast processing and shipping time that never takes longer than two weeks. As for coupons and discounts, there’s not too much variety, but at least you can get a bulk order discount of up to 25% on all products ordered from the company.
Although the choice seems a no-brainer at first, both Mixbook and Blurb have their own share of interesting features. Mixbook stands out with its virtually endless customization options, a simple editor, the option to invite others to contribute and a modest pricing policy with fast shipping and many discounts. Blurb, on the other hand, has two editors out of which the downloadable software is the one closest to the solution of Mixbook. However, Blurb books can contain up to 440 pages, be downloaded in PDF or be converted into eBooks. As for its pricing policy, it is on par with that of Mixbook, but the maximum two-week long shipping is something worthy of the bigger competitor.
Overall, neither Mixbook nor Blurb has anything to be ashamed of; in fact, these two photo book companies can be deemed equals to such extent that choosing either of them guarantees complete satisfaction.
