Medical Guardian is one of the largest medical alert system companies out there, with thousands of US seniors and other emergency button wearers nationwide relying on the company’s highly trained personal monitoring staff. It is one of the few providers offering both the latest advanced fall detection and GPS tracking in its medical alert systems, which is just one of the several reasons we’ve ranked this company as the number one provider on our site. Medical Guardian’s overall high level of customer service can be found in various aspects of its offerings including its flexible pricing and refunds for unused months, to just name a few examples. We set out to interview Paige, one of the members of the marketing team of this Philadelphia-based company, to find out more details about this company and its medical alert systems.
I am the Affiliate Marketing Manager here at Medical Guardian, meaning that I am responsible for the development and execution of our company-wide initiatives within the affiliate space. I work very closely with both our online and offline partners, and together we are able to put the Medical Guardian brand in front of millions of eyes each month. This is so important for us not only in terms of growing the business, but also because we offer the safest and most affordable way to age in place, giving all families nation-wide a low-cost alternative to helping loved ones safely age in place and remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
All of our monitoring personnel are 911-trained operators. In addition, these Life Safety Operators are also Security Industry Association (SIA) certified, Emergency Medical Training (EMT) certified, specially trained to quickly analyze various situations, and experienced with 2-way monitoring. Our monitoring centers also have on-duty Spanish-speaking operators for those who need it.
A client in New Jersey called in because she was having chest pains and could barely talk. Although the Life Safety Operator couldn’t understand what she was saying, he assessed that the situation was urgent and sent an ambulance to her house. He had also provided the EMTs with a code to her Medical Guardian lockbox, which allowed them to enter her home without breaking down the door. As instructed, after contacting emergency services, our Life Safety Operator called the client’s daughter, who was able to tell us that her mother had a history of heart issues and she believed she might be having a heart attack.
Thanks to Medical Guardian, our client was able to get the help she needed and made it to the hospital in time to be treated for a heart attack. She is currently recuperating but is expected to make a full recovery.
Medical Guardian holds customer service in the highest regard. We have an in-house customer service team, and in-house fulfillment team, and direct access to all of our monitoring centers across the country. Many of our competitors outsource these services, which comes at a price to their customers. The cheapest medical alert systems on the market are usually lower cost because the company is sacrificing their customer experience. We know that in an emergency situation, having trust in your PERS company is of utmost importance.
Many of our own employees use Medical Guardian medical alert devices for their loved ones. There’s no better testament to the quality of our service than having our own employees invest in them for their loved ones.
Our fall detection system hands down uses the most advanced technology out of any other products on the market. It’s a relatively complicated process that involves altimeters and barometric pressure, but we created a video to help people understand the technology in a simple way:
We also have the lowest rate of false alarms in comparison to competitors. We’ve been offering fall detection services with our Fall Alert product since November 2013, and have had a really low return rate with that product.
There is no age requirement for medical alert devices. While we have been known to market to a generally older audience, Medical Guardian has protected the lives of many younger clients over the years. Most of our younger clients are affected by limited mobility or suffer from a chronic disease that affects their balance. Fall Alert has been the popular choice of Medical Guardian products for people with Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and anyone with a history of heart disease or stroke.
Our Mobile Guardian product is also a great choice for younger clients because you can take it outside of the house with you. It’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand (or a purse or pocket) and connects to our monitoring centers via the AT&T wireless network. It’s ideal for someone active who has health concerns.
There are three basic tips I offer to seniors who are aiming to age in place. The first is to be aware of your diet. The old saying, “you are what you eat,” is quite true here; if you make an effort to eat more nutrient-dense foods, like fruits and vegetables, your body will have the tools that it needs to remain healthy longer. The second tip is regular exercise. Even if it’s daily half hour walks, getting up and staying active can help you maintain your balance and prevent future falls. The third tip is to keep a clean home. Clutter, buckled rugs, and dark hallways are also major fall hazards. The goal of aging in place is to stay independent for as long as possible and all three of these tips will help you achieve that!
Medical Guardian has a lot of exciting projects in the works. Unfortunately, I can’t get more specific than that, but I think our clients will be really pleased with the outcome.
Medical Guardian is a great place to work! No matter where you are in your career, Medical Guardian makes an effort to help you grow both personally and professionally. My position is part of the Marketing Team, who is like one big happy family. We share a lot of laughs throughout the day!
The best part, though, is knowing that the work that we are doing everyday can have a positive impact on someone else’s life. We receive the incident reports from our VP of Call Center Operations every week and it’s amazing to hear the stories of lives that Medical Guardian has saved. We get thank you letters from clients and their family members all the time and it makes what we do here every single day that much more rewarding.
We would like to thank Paige for taking the time to do this interview with us.
