Celebrity Seniors Who Become Victim of Medical Accidents

Let us tell you a secret: celebrities are mortals, just like everyone else. This sentence might have come out of the mouth of Captain Obvious, but try telling it to celebs! Despite having a safe full of cash, a legion of staff and access to the best medical assistance, aging famed personalities still manage to hurt themselves. No wonder, too, considering that famous people tend to live a more extravagant lifestyle. For example, TV star Dr. Phil dislocated his shoulder while practicing a dirt bike stunt with his friends. But as you’ll soon discover most injuries occur to aging celebrities while they are at home, as is the case with ‘ordinary’ elderly people. And in most cases, a medical alert system could have saved their lives…

Stars who fell but couldn't get up

Falling from grace is far less terrible then collapsing and breaking your bones, a lesson that not many senior celebrities can live to tell. The popular singer Leonard Cohen suffered a fall in his Los Angeles home during the middle of the night. Despite only seeming a minor accident, the star passed away in his sleep the same night. Roger Ailes, original founder and CEO of FOX News also had a fatal fall shortly after his 77th birthday.

Ann B. Davis, who was known for her role playing the housekeeper in The Brady Bunch, passed away in 2014 after hitting her head in a fall. Phil Collins is among the lucky ones who managed to get back into fray following his injury during a tour, where he woke up to go to the hotel bathroom, but slipped and landed on a chair. Luckily he got quickly stitched up.

As you can see, most falls occur in a star’s home, not on the stage or set. They wouldn’t lose face if they were wearing a fall detection pendant in the privacy of their own abode.

No one is immune to heart disease

In December 2016 the world was shocked as three celebrity deaths followed each other. Although that year had seen the loss of several popular celebs, the case was unique since all three of them were linked to heart problems. Alan Thicke (from Growing Pains) died at age 69 after a heart attack. Carrie Fisher (age 60), beloved by many sci-fi fans for her role as Princess Leia went into a cardiac arrest and died four days later. Lastly, singer George Michael passed away at age 53 on Christmas day because of heart failure.

Leeza Gibbons’ father would have suffered the same fate if his daughter hadn’t insisted on using a medical alert system, which eventually saved his life. When Carlos Gibbons was diagnosed with coronary heart disease, Leeza recommended the Lifeline system as a means of peace of mind. The TV personality was right, of course, as her father collapsed one night from a heart attack. Luckily the senior had enough strength to push the button and summon help, granting a happy ending for the story.
