An Intel-GE Company, Care Innovations was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between two highly reputable, established innovators. Intel and General Electrics co-created Care Innovations to offer a spectrum of healthcare and eldercare solutions, business consulting and clinical insight. They are committed to producing continuous research and improvements to healthcare solutions in an effort to provide people with quality products and superior service. By developing the Link medical alert system, the company aims to give baby boomers the chance to maintain their independence as they grow older, as well as reassurance and peace of mind for relatives and caregivers. The Care Innovations Link is a cost-effective care solution for the elderly, an advanced personal response system (PERS) that connects the user to trained specialists at any time of the day or night. It is aimed at people who are able to care for themselves, yet may occasionally become vulnerable.
Care Innovations provides round the clock monitoring services for its customers. With two response centers, one in the West and one in the East, you can be sure that one will always be available, even in the case of a natural or man-made disaster. Response center personnel are trained in medical terminology and equipment diagnostics and they have memory, communication and crisis management skills. They are US-based, multilingual representatives.
When the help button is pressed, a trained response professional answers the call within a minute. In the event of an emergency, the response center representative stays on the line with you until help arrives. The response center has all the relevant information so that the representative can contact family members, medical personnel or emergency responders immediately. If you are unable to speak or be heard, the response team will send help based on the no-voice contact call order instructions you provided.
Your profile includes contact information for your personal responders, so that when you press the help button and a representative asks who you want to notify, they will be able to connect you with that person immediately. Alternatively, if you’d like to notify a professional responder, the operator will first call for an ambulance, police or for fire services and then your personal responders.
If the wearer presses the help button by mistake, the alert can ben cancelled using the “Reset” button on the home base unit. If the call is connected to a representative, simply notify the operator that it was an accident. You will not be charged for using this service. The system does not come with built-in fall detection technology or GPS tracking, nor does it have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It does however feature a built-in self-monitoring device that notifies the response center if there is a power outage or if your phone line is disconnected.
The Link medical alert system comes with straightforward commands, so that it can be operated by anyone. The standard emergency response system consists of an emergency call button with three attachments, a breakaway adjustable lanyard, a clip-on and a strap, so that it can be worn as a pendant around the neck, as a belt clip-on or a wristband. When the button is pushed, a Care Innovations operator responds within a minute. The emergency call button is waterproof but is not to be submerged in water for more than 30 minutes. You will never need to recharge it, and the built-in self-monitoring device detects system disconnections and identifies battery status. You will also be aware that your battery is low because the light on the button will flash whenever the button is pressed, and the Care Innovations team will automatically send a replacement as it instantly receives a notification on this. The typical life of a battery is 5 years.
The home base unit ensures 24-hour monitoring service. Pressing the call button will enable two-way communication with a Care Innovations representative using a high-quality microphone and speaker. It can connect you from 390 feet away, anywhere in the home. Its back-up battery will last for 30 hours in case there is a power outage. It features safety alerts when the battery is low, which is useful for when there is a power outage or the telephone is disconnected. An additional nice feature is that pressing the Link button will also answer any incoming telephone calls hands-free. Unfortunately though Care Innovations doesn’t offer a wireless base unit that can be used in homes without a traditional phone line.
Additionally, a lock box is available for Link medical alert users and it holds an extra set of house keys. You set a numerical dial code and when help personnel arrives at the scene of an emergency, the Link control center share the code with them so that a locked door doesn’t delay their rescue operation. Extra call buttons can also be ordered for an additional fee.
A Link medical alert system can be ordered online or over the telephone, by speaking to a member of the sales team. When the Link medical alert system sent from Care Innovations arrives, the box will include comprehensive and straightforward installation instructions. You will need to plug the Link home base unit into an electrical outlet and the phone cord into a telephone jack. Most customers are able to install the Link unit by themselves.
If you are unable to set up the console yourself, Care Innovations will arrange for a professional to install it. Simply contact their call center and a representative will schedule the installation. You will, however, be charged a one-time fee for this unique service.
Care Innovations practices a no-hidden-fees policy for their Link medical alert systems, meaning it does not charge any setup fees or activation fees, there are no long-term contract obligations, and there is no equipment to buy.
The pricing policy is simple: there is one package available that includes the rental of the equipment and round the clock monitoring service. The package is available with monthly payments of $24.95 paid every month, or you can opt for an annual payment of $299.40 per year and get your thirteenth month using the service for free.
The company accepts returns, which you can simply do by contacting a technical support representative who will give you a return authorization number valid for 15 days. You will receive a refund promptly upon confirmation of your return. Any additional accessories you may require come with extra charges. The Care Innovations Link additional call button comes with a wrist strap, breakaway lanyard and self-adhesive mounting strip. The Link emergency buttons are the only ones of their kind that can be worn as pendant, wristband and belt clip-on. The annual fee for renting another call button is $54.90, and if you prefer to pay monthly your bill will be an additional $4.95 per month.
The lock box also incurs an additional charge. This device keeps extra keys safe and makes them available to emergency personnel and relatives in the case of an emergency. You will be charged a one-time payment of $29.95. The Link system and accessories delivery charges are included in the price of the package, as are the charges for replacement batteries.
