Amazon Music Unlimited Comes to Play with The Big Boys

Music streaming services have conquered the world, not only by making it easy to access more songs and albums than your local media store has, but also by how affordable it is. Services like Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora among others are the main fan gatherers, with millions of users worldwide – therefore competing with them can be quite the challenge. However, this is nothing that scares Amazon, as the giant company released a similar music service aimed exactly at the big boys’ playground with a couple of interesting and unique features to conquer more users. Still, the service has been released last October and is only available in a handful of countries.

“Alexa, play the best songs from the 90s”

The main differences that Amazon Music Unlimitedhas compared to other services like Spotify or Apple Music are the fact that it doesn’t share the annoying “in-song” ads like other contenders do, and the pricing is also worth putting on a celebration song. The service was originally believed to serve as a replacement for the previous version, called Prime Music, although the company states that the previous service will still be available to those who don’t subscribe to Music Unlimited. Amazon’s new music contender has a library of about two million songs and thousands of pre-set playlists, but the most interesting feature is yet to be presented below.

The main objective of Amazon was to create an interaction between this music streaming service, Echo devices, and the Alexa voice assistant for requesting songs. Echo users receive exclusive discounts for obtaining a monthly subscription: they pay only $3.99 per month (instead of the regular $7.99 per month for Prime members, and $9.99 for general users). All you need to do is ask Alexa for a song, genre or a specific artist’s latest or best hits, and have them played on your speakers. Notwithstanding, the service is also available for computers, mobile and all kinds of Amazon devices.

Country availability

This is unfortunately Amazon’s weakest point, as the service is currently only available in the United States, UK, Germany and Austria. In addition, European users can only make use of this if they have previously subscribed to Prime. This means that worldwide users living outside these countries who want to try out this new interesting music streaming service, will not only require VPN software to become a member of Amazon’s new music streaming service, but will also have to subscribe to Prime – however there’s a 30-day free trial. Before you access the service, all you need is to use your Virtual Private Network to connect to a server placed in one of the aforementioned countries, where the service is available, and provided that you’re a Prime member beforehand, you can listen to your favorite songs, as a courtesy of Amazon.
