PositiveSingles.com is a dating website with a unique twist. Unlike the majority of similar sites, this one exclusively caters for single people and couples, despite its name, who are living with STDs. The site connects you with other like-minded people who are also suffering from some kind of STD and are therefore sympathetic to, and understanding of, your condition. The website is intended to help transform the lives of those who may feel isolated and embarrassed about their condition by giving them the opportunity to communicate with, and potentially date or befriend, non-judgmental people in a similar boat as well as offering a private support system along with practical medical advice.
Positive Singles is, understandably given the subject matter, largely based around the supportive community aspect, with much of the site dedicated to positive stories of support, live chats with counselors and experts, treatment stories, success stories. The website is generally full of members lending each other a helping hand and a wealth of tips and advice. Despite this, it still acts primarily as a dating website, connecting people looking for friendship or more.
You can see who has viewed your profile and access private messages where you can see who has sent you winks signaling their interest, and even send some yourself. If you’re not looking to date, there is a huge section dedicated to STD social events, where you can arrange to meet like-minded people living nearby for dinner, for a movie, to go shopping or just to grab a casual coffee. Remember to be cautious when meeting people online and make sure you meet in a public place and have a mobile on you.
When you sign up to Positive Singles you are asked to specify which kind of STD(s) you are living with, your height, ethnicity, age, and whether you are looking to connect with a man, woman or couple so that the site can get an idea of which profiles to match you to. Please note you have to be over the age of 18 to register. Once you reach the second stage, you can specify which STD you would prefer your match to have – presumably a similar one to yours – and if you’re looking for a relationship, friendship, penpal or all of the above, as well as other particularities you are looking for in your match, for example hair color, physical appearance and religion, being as specific or non-specific as you like. You will then be able to fill in your personal profile, describe yourself, specify what type of people you are looking for and upload a photograph. If however you wish to stay anonymous initially, or even for your entire time on the site, uploading a photograph is not mandatory.
Once you’ve completed the sign-up, you will gain access to your account where you can search for other members, read and send emails and winks, view STD social events, access chat rooms offering live support, and read first date ideas, STD advice and inspirational stories from members on the forums at no cost. However until you upgrade to a paid account, i.e. a “Gold” membership, you will not be able to access the other aforementioned features of the site.
As mentioned previously, Positive Singles is not your average dating website. It is aimed at people with STDs only, and given the content and sensitive subject matter is not open for anyone else to join.
To gain full access to the site and benefit from its many features, you have to upgrade your account from “Standard” member to “Gold” member. Membership is priced at the special introductory price of $95.95 for six months, $59.95 for three months, or $29.95 for one month (normally $239 per annum) and is payable by any credit or debit card, PayPal or Bank Check/Money Order.
