Pets Best offers one basic accident and illness coverage plan that comes in different levels. The deductible, reimbursement amount and policy maximums vary depending on the level you chose. In addition to the basic accident and illness coverage, this plan also covers hereditary illnesses and alternative treatments.

For an additional monthly cost, you can add BestWellness routine care coverage, which provides coverage for routine exams, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and teeth cleaning. For specific health needs or limited budgets, you can also purchase a cancer only, accident only or feline illness only plan.

VPI Pet Insurance: a litter of plans to choose from

VPI Pet Insurance offers a variety of plans to choose from for both cats and Dogs. The most popular plan is the Major Medical plan, which covers accidents, illness and some hereditary conditions. For people with a smaller budget, there is the Economical Medical Plan, which is the same as the Major Medical plan but with lower costs and benefits.

You can also choose to purchase the Injury Plan for dogs, called the Feline Select Plan for cats, to cover accidents only. Finally, there is the CareGuard wellness plan, with two benefit levels, that can be purchased alone or in combination with one of the other plans to cover the costs of routine care.

Which plan should you choose?

When determining the level of accident and illness coverage, you should consider your pet’s environment and lifestyle. For an indoor cat or small dog that doesn’t go outside much, a lower level plan may be enough. For an outdoor pet or larger pet that is more inclined to have an accident or be exposed to illnesses, a larger level of coverage may be required. Routine care coverage is not as necessary as accident and illness coverage, but it’s a good investment if you can afford it, especially if you have a puppy or kitten. The costs of spaying, neutering, and vaccinations can really add up, especially in the first year of life.

To determine which plan is right for you, you’ll need to decide how much coverage you would like to have, how much you can afford per month for premiums and what type of coverage your pet is most likely going to need. All pets should have at least a basic level of accident and illness coverage. You never know when something might happen and it’s best to be prepared.
