With the world of mobile technology and its various capabilities rapidly expanding, we are beginning to see web conferencing applications that were previously only available to desktops and laptops go mobile in an effort to keep with the times. For example, web conferencing applications such as GoToMeeting and WebEx, which were previously unavailable to smartphones and tablet computers, are now making their way to mobile application stores across the globe.
GoToMeeting is quite possibly the most popular web conferencing software available on the market, and it is now available in Apple’s App Store for an extremely attractive price of zero dollars and zero cents – you still need to be subscribed to one of their plans though. Even though it is completely free, it still offers up much of the same functionality that the traditional desktop version of GoToMeeting has. For example, the application utilizes the cameras on the iPhone and Android phones in order to allow video conferencing for up to six people.
When using this mobile application, the user also has the ability to open chat sessions with any attendee of the meeting. Joining a meeting is as easy as clicking on a link in an email from a friend or coworker or dialing in from a phone; in a matter of just a few seconds, you can be connected to a fully functional meeting. Even when using an iPhone or iPad, the user still gets the full experience of a regular, traditional GoToMeeting web conference. Overall, this application maintains the simplicity of the desktop version of GoToMeeting, without skimping on the software’s incredible functionality and features.
If you’re a WebEx user who wants to go mobile, there’s also an application out there for you. Unlike GoToMeeting, Cisco’s WebEx does not maintain two different mobile apps; i.e. there is not a separate iPhone app and iPad app. Instead, there is a single universal application available on Apple’s App Store. This means that every single mobile WebEx user will be receiving the same end experience; quite a comforting thought for those of us who have an iPhone but not an iPad (and vice versa). The mobile version of WebEx is essentially the same as the desktop version. It is extremely functional and keeps almost all of the same features as the desktop version, but still manages to maintain a remarkable level of usability. All of this for the fantastic price of absolutely nothing; it’s a free extra service that WebEx is giving its subscribed customers.
Overall, both GoToMeeting and Cisco WebEx’s mobile applications are fantastic for any average person that needs to go mobile with their work. It is also worth noting that these applications are available on both Apple’s App Store and the Android Market.
