There is only a small age gap between Intelius and BeenVerified, with the former being four years younger. However, four years is a long time on the internet since innovation can happen overnight. However, the way that these two companies handle public record searching is very different, not only in how they look but also in how the reports are presented. Still, it’s in the pricing where the biggest divide between the two is…

Intelius is a long-standing veteran in the arena of background check services, helping people learn about their peers since 2003. The site’s feature set is best described as layered, since there are multiple ways to conduct a search and find different results. You can run a people search for basic background reports, look up the criminal records of someone or do a complete background check that includes each of these and adds in financial information to the list, too. However, those who are new to the idea of background checking will likely be lost in the segmented menus of the service.
Intelius also has a dedication to providing the service on smartphones, too, and offers a downloadable app for Android and iOS devices. But its most unique feature is the identity shield that – for an extra fee – will reveal the identity of anyone that has checked your credit score and grants additional fraud resolution from experts. The downside of Intelius is the pricing, though. Each report type comes with a different price tag, ranging from $0.95 to $49.95, though the optional membership has a recurring fee of $19.95 per month.
BeenVerified is the TV star of background check services after it appeared in numerous TV ads in the early 2010s. The service delivers a reliable stream of information that is divided into subcategories within the report for easier assessment. From birth records to arrest history, court judgements and even licenses and permits, BeenVerified provides a thorough look into the target’s public files. And to its credit the information isn’t just dumped on you and instead offers a good deal of clarification.
As with Intelius, BeenVerified is also available on touchscreen devices with the added ability to run a reverse phone number lookup on any unknown numbers to learn about their identity before answering. Still, the trump card is the tracking feature implemented into the reports that instantly lets you know via notification if something has changed in the official records. As for pricing, BeenVerified works with a single membership: if you subscribe for $26.89 per month you will receive unrestricted access to all of the service’s available content.
Intelius and BeenVerified each speak to a different target audience. The former is for regular background check users who know exactly what they are hunting for so that the search menus won’t cause an unnecessary headache. Such individuals will also value the identity shield and the ability to pay less for just an individual report. BeenVerified is more for casual users that wish to have a more streamlined experience. The search engine is uncomplicated and the report tracking is very handy to keep yourself informed about a subject. But in terms of pricing, BeenVerified takes home the trophy because it offers unlimited access for a lower monthly price than the one-time purchase with Intelius.
