Overview comparison for FreshBooks, QuickBooks Online

FreshBooks

Since its creation in 2003, online accounting solution FreshBooks has been chosen by 5 million users worldwide. Even though the original version only featured invoicing, billing and time tracking, nowadays it is full-fledged accounting software, ideal for sole proprietors and small businesses. With the help of a user-friendly interface you can do everything your business requires: creating invoices which you can also track, estimates that can easily be converted into invoices, and managing your bills. The projecting feature includes a clever built-in time tracking software with which you can effectively manage your timing and even add billable and unbillable times to your invoices. You can also allow fast online payment which directs your customers to a very friendly clients’ portal where they can pay your invoices and accept your estimates even in their own currency.

FreshBooks integrates with almost 40 different third party services, and it has a pitch-perfect iOS and Android application. The outstanding customer service operates for a long time during weekdays, ready to answer your questions within a short amount of time by phone or via email. The four pricing plans – for $12.95 per month, $19.95 per month, $29.95 per month and $39.95 per month respectively – are very simple and they only differ in the number of clients you can add to your software. Furthermore, you can try out the software for free for 30 days, but if you subscribe and choose the annual plan, you save 10% of the fee each month.

QuickBooks Online

The owner of QuickBooks, Intuit Inc. has been on the accounting market since 1983 with three major products: QuickBooks Self-Employed, QuickBooks Desktop and the most recent product, QuickBooks Online which is a good choice not just for small businesses, but for bigger ones and sole-proprietors as well. Aside from the usual features, such as invoicing, quoting, billing, you can also add as many clients as you want, manage an inventory, create and print checks, and if you choose the top product of QuickBooks Online, you can file your 1099s too. The software automatically builds 20 different reports from profit & loss to trial balances, and subscribing to the pay-as-you-go online payment service allows your clients to quickly pay their invoices with other forms than credit/debit card and wire transfer.

The software integrates with over 300 third party services and the company also supports and offers an API. You can access your account using a mobile device with Android or iOS as well without restrictions. You can try out the software for free for 30 days, but if you have subscribed and aren’t satisfied with its services, you can cancel your subscription any time and request a full refund within 60 days of subscription. The pricing of the three QuickBooks Online products are $12.95 per month, $26.95 per month, and $39.95 per month respectively, but if you skip the trial period, you can save up to 20% of your monthly price for a limited time.

Conclusion

Even though FreshBooks and QuickBooks Online could be identical twins regarding the available features and even the pricing, they are still unique in their own way. FreshBooks, on one hand, has pricing plans with basically the same features and makes an ideal choice for smaller businesses. Creating and managing documents is easy, the projecting and time tracking features are clever, the mobile application is the perfect copy of the desktop version, and the customer support is quick and always ready to answer your questions. QuickBooks, on the other hand, is able to serve a wide variety of businesses from sole proprietorships to bigger companies. This solution has many well-known features such as invoicing, estimates, bills etc. However, it also integrates with over 300 third party software, and helps you create over 20 reports, 1099s, and manage your stock and items in its inventory both on your computer or your smartphone.
