Fastmail comes with thorough email features that let you do everything you need, while still offering a user-friendly and customizable interface. Plus, without unwanted hiccups or boring loading times, navigating the apps is a breeze.

You can thoroughly change the layout to your liking, including colors, button styles, navigation options, and mailbox display.

First-time users should start by migrating their emails, contacts, and calendars.

Fastmail supports data migration from many email clients, such as Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo Mail, and other services via IMAP, CardDAV, and CalDAV. You can also import contacts and events by uploading CSV, ICS, and VCard files. In parallel, exporting data is also possible.

We found the overall migration process is smooth and intuitive.

For example, when we imported our calendar events, we were able to select which events to migrate and which ones to skip.

However, we did miss this feature when importing contacts.

For now, Fastmail imports all contacts in the file instantly, so we recommend refining the list beforehand.

On another note, the platform allows you to add your own domain or purchase one directly from Fastmail – perfect for businesses that want to use Fastmail.

Like other email service providers, Fastmail helps organize your inbox in several ways.

It’s possible to pin emails to have the most important messages at the top of the inbox, create different folders, and set email rules. Thanks to the platform’s advanced search, finding emails is also an easy task. You can fine-tune results with filters that include subject, receiver, date, and attachment.

Plus, Fastmail has built-in storage to add documents from your computer or Dropbox to use as attachments later more easily.

The snooze button is also welcome.

You can enable it when you need to focus on the task at hand or schedule it ahead of time. Alternatively, you can always leave an out-of-office message if you will be away from email for a long time.

Email scheduling is also available, allowing you to send emails on specific dates and hours.

An excellent addition that not all email service providers offer is the undo-send button, which gives you 20 seconds to retrieve a message when you send an email.

But the cake goes to Fastmail's offline mode.

It lets you do nearly everything you can online, including reading and replying to emails, editing calendars and contacts, and fine-tuning settings. All offline actions are synced to Fastmail's server as soon as you’re back online.

Fastmail’s built-in calendar is another feature we really enjoyed.

Not only is the interface easy to use and read, but it also offers convenient options for better organization.

You can create multiple calendars, group them, toggle their visibility, and enable various time zone support.

Additionally, the email client supports public calendars via .ics URLs to track their events in your personal email.

Users also don’t need to worry about showing up on time to a meeting or remembering important events due to the customizable reminder alerts.

Fastmail states that its users’ data is always private, which seems a bit of a stretch.

Although we believe Fastmail won’t sell the users’ data to advertisers as it says, the service doesn’t natively provide end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

Moreover, Fastmail is an Australian company that is under the Five Eyes Intelligence alliance, and its servers are located in the U.S.

So, user information might be shared with authorities if requested through an Australian court order under mutual assistance treaties.

In other words, there isn’t 100% certainty that the American government won’t be able to access emails from Fastmail upon submitting a valid legal order. This is also true for any other countries that are part of the alliance (Canada, New Zealand, and the UK).

That being said, Fastmail doesn’t try to hide this reality and publishes a data transparency report every year, where you can find information about data access requests.

On a brighter side, Fastmail offers the latest authentication method when it comes to login technology – passkeys.

Plus, Fastmail’s masked emails let you register new accounts with random temporary email addresses to hide your real address from companies to avoid spam and tracking.

The best part is that Fastmail integrates 1Password and Bitwarden to streamline sign-ups with masked emails.

Email aliases are also available for enhanced organization.

Unfortunately, Fastmail isn’t available as a desktop app, and you’ll have to use its browser version on Windows and macOS.

At least, the company offers apps for Android and iOS, which come with the full pack of features you get on the browser version.

More impressive than that is how Fastmail maintains the clean design and user-friendliness on the mobile app.

Fastmail has three different subscription options:

• Individual (1 user): costs as little as $4.67 per month and offers all premium features, such as custom domains, scheduled sends, 60GB of storage, and offline support.
• Duo (2 users): price as low as $7.47 per month ($3.74 per user) and includes everything plus 120GB of storage.
• Family (up to 6 users): starts at $1.71 per user per month and provides all features, as well as 360GB of storage.

All plans come with four billing cycles: monthly, yearly, biennially, and triennially. The longer you commit, the less you pay per month.

Plus, they all come with a 30-day free trial without a credit card, so you can try the product worry-free before committing to a purchase.

If you need more storage, Fastmail offers extra storage upgrades up to 300GB per user. You can do this in two ways: add more storage in 60GB increments to your current plan (with each increment costing the same as adding an extra user) or upgrade to a higher-tier subscription.

You can find Fastmail on socials like Mastodon, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

In addition to not offering built-in end-to-end encryption, it’s also based in Australia, a country part of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance.

It’s still more private than Gmail or Yahoo without losing any critical features, though.

Still, as a paid product, we believe Fastmail should have more customer support contact channels, even if the FAQ page explains most of the service.

In short, if you’re looking for an email provider that guarantees 100% privacy, Fastmail is not the provider for you.

Still, if you’re looking for a simple, easy-to-use, ad-free email service, Fastmail may be the right email client for you.
