The first thing we noticed about Comu Action Pro is how small, lightweight, and easy to carry it is. Its clean design, compact display, and black, silver, or cherry-red finishes give it a polished look.

The package includes the recorder, a magnetic ring, a USB-C cable, a quick-start guide, and a safety manual. The ring held poorly when attached directly to our uncovered phone but worked much better on its case.

Its adaptive six-microphone system captured clear dialogue from a distance, although accuracy dropped in busy surroundings. The dedicated AI button is another standout: press it, speak a request, and send it directly to Comu’s assistant.

Comu Action Pro characteristics

  • Pocket-sized design with a built-in display
  • Adaptive six-microphone recording system
  • Recording range of up to 7m / 7.6 yards
  • Up to 70 hours of continuous recording
  • Real-time transcription and translation
  • Multi-language support (over 100 languages)
  • Dedicated recording and AI buttons
  • Support for offline recording
  • Black, silver, and cherry-red finishes

Pairing and setup

Pairing Comu Action Pro with the mobile app is quick. After creating an account, scan the QR code on the recorder’s display, quick-start card, or follow the in-app instructions. The initial setup may also include a firmware update.

You can create an optional voice profile to improve recognition and select a default language and career type to personalize contacts and generated content. Connectivity was reliable, and the process felt smooth.

Recording audio and file transfers

It’s easy to understand how the device records: long-press the recording button to start or stop a recording and press it once to pause or resume.

A configurable light and vibration indicates when the device is recording. Double-tapping marks important moments, though light taps weren’t always detected in our tests, which may frustrate some users.

Recordings transfer to the mobile app, with a fast Wi-Fi option for longer files. Most synced quickly, but transfers only began after we opened the app, and a few files didn’t appear on desktop until we generated their transcripts.

After a successful transfer, Comu removes the file from the recorder to free up space. Cloud backup and playback are available, but there are no tools for trimming, splitting, or removing silent gaps after recording.

Phone-call recording

We tested WhatsApp and regular cellular calls. WhatsApp produced better audio, but transcripts sometimes mishandled long numbers spoken with pauses.

Cellular calls sounded poorer and generated slightly more errors, so results depend heavily on call quality and clear speech.

Notes, transcriptions, and summaries

Automatic transcription is optional, giving users control over which recordings consume credits. Before processing a file, you can choose the template, languages, translation settings, and expected number of speakers.

Performance was impressive: a 17-minute meeting took roughly 30 seconds to transcribe. Comu produced accurate English and Portuguese transcripts, separated speakers, and divided conversations into timestamped sections.

A scripted test with deliberate stutters, pauses, and filler sounds also performed well. Noise cancellation was strong in everyday settings, though keeping the recorder near the speaker improved accuracy in loud environments.

The resulting summaries, insights, notes, and action lists were useful. Minor inconsistencies included an English recording initially receiving a Spanish filename and unpredictable use of subjects or timestamps as file names.

Speaker recognition and contacts

This AI notetaking service labels voices as ‘Speaker 1’, ‘Speaker 2’, and so on, but you can replace them with names.

Doing so creates contact profiles where you can add notes, classify clients, review past conversations, and see when you last spoke.

We loved this feature, which is especially useful for consultants, recruiters, and client-facing teams.

AI assistant and actions

Comu’s biggest differentiator is turning speech into finished work.

Its assistant can create documents, reports, tables, editable PowerPoint presentations, email drafts, and task lists. The one-page executive report we generated was clear and easy to read.

Actions can have assignees and due dates, appear on a calendar, and sometimes include an AI shortcut for drafting an email or preparing another meeting. However, you might encounter a few setbacks here and there. For example, when we asked Comu to add a date to an existing task, it duplicated the item instead of updating it.

With that being said, the physical AI button makes these tools convenient: hold it, speak, and release it to submit the request.

Inspirations

Inspirations lets you press the AI button and save a spoken idea for later brainstorming or content generation.

It’s simple but makes the recorder useful beyond meetings and interviews.

Preferences and templates

Comu Action Pro works out of the box, but its settings let you adjust recording indicators and limits, automatic transcription, cloud backup, security, and other device behavior.

Comu includes over 25 templates, including Adaptive Summary, One-on-One, Team Meeting, and Brainstorm.

The library is smaller than those of some competitors, but you can create custom templates from instructions or attachments.

Custom vocabulary improves recognition of names and technical terms, while eligible plans can select different AI and speech models.

Additional features

Sharing controls let you choose whether recipients can access the audio, transcript, summary, insights, notes, and action list. Exports include MP3 and WAV for audio, TXT, SRT, DOCX, and PDF for written content, and PPT for AI-generated presentations.

The mobile app can import files of up to 500MB from local storage and cloud services. Images and documents, including PDFs, can also be attached to recordings and incorporated into AI summaries.

Real-time transcription worked flawlessly during our live-meeting test.

Platforms

Comu is available on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and the web. Its apps are clean and easy to navigate, though they differ slightly.

You can create custom folders and let AI automatically classify meetings, making them easier to organize. Search and the AI assistant work across recordings, contacts, Inspirations, and Actions.

The main drawback is that customization options such as speaker labels, tags, contacts, and Actions are available primarily on mobile.

App locks and session timeouts add security, and Comu states that the service complies with GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2.

Integrations

Comu connects with Gmail and Outlook for email drafts and follow-ups.

Direct Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar integrations weren’t available at the time of testing, though they were planned.

Advanced users can build custom workflows using API keys, webhooks, and development tools such as Cursor, Codex, and Claude Code.

Comu’s support center offers numerous self-help resources, including a blog, help center, online user manual, and FAQs. We’d like the help center to include more detailed guidance for features such as headphone mode and double-tap highlights, which were difficult to find during testing.

Users seeking personal assistance can contact support via chat or email. We submitted a message through the contact form and received a reply in under 15 seconds – an excellent response that helps offset the limited guidance in the help center.

We didn’t like that contacting a human through chat required a name, email address, and phone number. Asking for contact details is understandable, but requiring something as personal as a phone number creates unnecessary friction for users who only want a quick answer.

Comu also maintains communities and social profiles on Discord, Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Bottom line

Comu Action Pro is a capable AI notetaking service that combines compact, lightweight hardware with fast and accurate multilingual transcription.

Its biggest strength is transforming conversations into practical outputs, including summaries, documents, presentations, emails, and actionable tasks.

The Starter plan’s unlimited basic transcription and summaries also provide excellent long-term value for users who want to avoid a mandatory subscription.

However, its template library is limited compared to some competitors, several important features are mainly available on mobile, and occasional AI and syncing errors can disrupt the otherwise smooth experience.

Ultimately, we recommend Comu Action Pro for busy professionals who want to turn meetings directly into actionable work. Before purchasing, take advantage of the 7-day free trial.
