Beware of Registry Cleaner Malware

In this particular case, both free and open source software can bring more problems than solutions really, as you can make your computer sick even before you use them. Many of these are not more than malware, spyware and/or virus carriers which are particularly known for being installed this way. Threats are often disguised, tricking you into downloading what you think is a trustworthy and perfectly fine-looking program. Once installed though, you run into the chance of having it corrupting your registry, disk, files and more, infecting your device with all sorts of junk.

Furthermore, registry cleaners are particularly vulnerable to be attacked as they are meant to clean your machine. Unfortunately, this is quite common and each day more and more users are being affected, turning otherwise perfectly running PCs into unstable and slowly dying machines.

Openness being abused

Open source software can be a two edged knife. When a registry cleaner’s configuration and code is publicly available, it can be inspected and modified by anyone. If on the one hand there are well-intentioned people willing to help and access the coding to fix bugs and update the service for the better, the same can happen in the reverse way. They can abuse the availability of the open source code to insert a virus or malware within it and infect those who install the software in the future.
