Deezer is a French music streaming service. Available on devices including Android, iOS, Kindle Fire, Symbian, BlackBerry or the Windows Phone, the company usually attracts listeners who prefer mobile devices. Of course, it is available on home computers as well through both downloadable software and your browser. The problem is that not all machines with internet connection can access Deezer. The organization is an unusual exception in terms of which countries block it. Though there are not many of them, the list does include big consumer countries such as the USA or Japan. This article is concerned with bypassing these blocks, and thus we are going to elaborate on the best solution to it: smart DNS and VPN services.
The limited availability of Deezer is unique among music streaming websites. The general tendency is that countries associated with “western” culture are generally favored together; Africa is left out irrelevant, and China, along with North Korea, simply does not allow any foreign business. Out of these, only the latter is true for Deezer. In Africa, all countries except Sudan and South Sudan are good to go, and in Asia, Iran, Israel, Syria, India, Myanmar and (oddly) Japan do not allow the site today. In America, Suriname, Belize, Cuba and the USA are also left out. Also, if you happen to reside in Greenland, you cannot get Deezer online there either.
In our opinion, the main reasons for these “irregular” restrictions are financial interest and politics. Countries that are generally strict online like Iran and China are no surprise; we theorize though that the USA and Japan have more complicated reasons behind not allowing Deezer inside their respective borders.
The best remedy today to unblock Deezer in these countries is a smart DNS service. Here’s how they work.
Any smart DNS connection requires the change of your DNS address to one (or a pair) the company of your choice gives you. More often than not, this also necessitates a brief manual setup, as there are few organizations that offer client software on top of products – it is simply not necessary for a simple DNS modification. Companies grant access to a certain set of websites only, which number in the hundreds – you are bound to find your streamer, and Deezer is almost never missed out of any list.
To give a better view of the situation, we will now briefly compare smart DNS with a service that can function similarly, a VPN. Both are capable of getting the job done, but they do so differently. A VPN network is safer, as it is protected by encryptions. The disadvantage of this is that in exchange for safety, your connection speeds are slower. This is not present at smart DNS as such a service has no inherent protection to speak of. This also means though that since streaming requires a lot of bandwidth, smart DNS is better if we strictly think about streaming, in this case Deezer.
However, because of this exposure, we do not recommend using smart DNS by itself in countries like China, North Korea or Iran that persecute anything unauthorized (like a smart DNS connection).
On that final note, we would like to recommend you three such companies that are great for unblocking Deezer from anywhere in the world. First up, we present Unlocator. Though hiding your presence online is not the greatest asset of this organization, they are a suitable choice for those who are beginners in smart DNS usage. Even before you make a final decision, you still have two weeks of free trial time for tryout, and another 14 days after a purchase as the refund duration. Basically you have one full month of free smart DNS, if you decide against the service in the end.
SmartyDNS also handles things in a clever way. Next to their own 14-day free trial, you also have a full month of refund time. And since this is one of the cheapest services out there compared to what you get, you might as well check out their other product, a fresh VPN service.
Lastly, we bring up ibDNS. This company is more famous for its VPN (which is among the best today), but their unique twist is that smart DNS is very often combined with it. Through the vast selection of over 20 different pricing plans, ibDNS gives you several elements of choice. While their smart DNS service is fine and dandy by itself, we suggest peeking into the specifics of the VPN as well, as the two are designed to work together even in this company’s case.
