AMC (formerly American Movie Classics) is an American television channel. Launched in 1984 (not because of allusions to a certain novel), the company has diverted from the “movie classics” it aired in its early years and instead focuses on television series like The Walking Dead or CSI: Miami. The online iteration of AMC offers the same selection, but similarly to cable and satellite television, the organization’s services are not free on the internet either. Furthermore, you can only access these online contents in the USA, the UK and Canada. This means that anybody not residing in these countries needs to find a way around the restrictions to have proper access to AMC. This article is about extrapolating on two solutions to this problem: VPN (Virtual Private Network) and smart DNS (smart Domain Name System). They work with different methods, yet yield more or less similar results when it comes to getting access to AMC and other channels like it.
First, it should be emphasized here that VPN and smart DNS (and other online security and unblocking services) are only capable of granting you access to AMC. You will not be able to watch it for free just because you use one of them, they only solve the problem of helping you get to the content you otherwise cannot.
The differences between VPN and smart DNS are the following. First, the former needs your IP address changed, while the latter deals with switching DNS identifiers. Iin terms of safety VPN is ahead a bit, as you are protected by encryptions. Smart DNS does not use something of similar value, but this is an advantage from the standpoint of streaming sites like AMC. The case is such because encryptions reduce your connection speeds, making VPN a less favorable choice when it comes to loading in lots of data over long periods of time.
AMC is mobile friendly. Next to Windows and Mac OS, you can watch their shows on iOS and Android, with no requirements for flash players. You can deploy a smart DNS proxy and VPN service to unblock AMC in any region on all of these devices, either by using the designated app for your device or through manual setup.
As our last informative move, we are going to recommend you three smart DNS companies that are quite coherent with accessing AMC online. First up, we take a look at UnoTelly. This company thinks about both your possibilities and has a smart DNS standalone package and also a DNS+VPN one that will grant you access to the complete online availabilities of the USA, the UK, the Netherlands and Canada.
Then there is Smarty DNS. They are quite cheap for what you get, as unlike most smart DNS companies, you get free client software that automatically does manual setup for you. They too have a smaller VPN plan as well that is available on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, some routers, Ubuntu Linux and Chromebook. The smart DNS side of the service has much more extended device support.
Lastly, we present Unblock Us. The “Us” in their name signals the United States, actually; the company has a vast selection of U.S. content to connect to, AMC included. Apart from this, they also offer a so-called Smart VPN solution; it is the quirky combination of smart DNS and VPN traits.
We would also like to highlight PureVPN SmartDNS. This product is sort of a sidekick to the VPN this Hong Kong based company is more known for. Still, it fares well among other smart DNS services, with about 300 channels to choose from, including Showtime. And, despite being priced lower than its competition, you can even get it for free if you subscribe to the VPN first.
