ZoogVPN features the best encryption protocols on the market, multi-device support, up to 10 simultaneous connections, and decent performance. The company provides a limited free plan and paid plans with plenty of features to browse anonymously and bypass worldwide geo restrictions.

On top of all this, considering it’s based in Greece – a country outside the 14 eyes surveillance alliance – your data is much more safe and secure. Paid plans start at $2.49 per month, including a 75% discount, three months for free, and a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Kill switch

We loved how well designed, user-friendly, and straightforward ZoogVPN's dashboard is – something important for a VPN service. Here, you have all the information about the VPN, including the number of connected devices, data usage (for the free plan), a comprehensive list of server locations, and a download hub.

The free plan does come with some limitations compared to the paid alternative, but it still gives beginners a chance to navigate the internet anonymously with pretty good speeds.

Although the application itself is not the best looking one we’ve ever seen, it’s refreshingly simple to use. After you log in, you need to create an account for the free plan, and you’re led to the connection tab. Here, by default, the server is on auto. However, if you click it, you are able to pick between the different servers ZoogVPN provides.

You also have a settings tab where you can make configuration choices such as enabling the kill switch and choosing which protocol you want to use.

If you opt for the free plan you will have the opportunity to choose between servers in three different locations: the U.S., the UK, and the Netherlands. However, if you let the server automatically pick one, ZoogVPN will choose the most suitable server for you and may go for servers that are only available with premium.

While unlimited bandwidth is only for paid users, with ZoogVPN's free plan you get 10GB per month, which is already pretty good for light and occasional internet navigation. However, keep in mind that its designated servers for streaming are only available on premium plans.

When it comes to choosing different protocols, you’re limited to IKeV2 or OpenVPN. Moreover, even though you only get 128-bit encryption, the kill switch isn’t a paid feature, which we found great since not all free VPN services offer it. While we understand the reason why, the only thing that we didn’t like were the occasional ad pop-ups.

Netflix and torrenting

One of the things we loved the most about ZoogVPN is how it has a thorough list of all the streaming platforms you can access using its service. For easy access to what you actually want, you can search for the right server by typing it in the search bar (e.g. Amazon Prime).

ZoogVPN markets itself as being able to reach these services wherever you are. For this review, we connected to the U.S. server and tested some of the free services. It did work, but be aware of the 10GB bandwidth limit if you’re using the free plan.

This VPN also supports P2P torrenting. We tested it and we only got a minor slowdown, which was pleasantly surprising. Of course, with the limited bandwidth, ZoogVPN's free plan is not made for too many downloads.

Ad blocker and split tunneling

Much like the best VPNs on the market, ZoogVPN also provides an ad blocker to make sure your browsing is smooth and clear. In addition, it features split tunneling, which is always convenient for anyone looking to manage their connection more closely.

If you opt for a premium account, the array of servers goes from 3 in the free plan to 100 in more than 70 countries across all continents. While this isn’t exactly the most extensive list of servers, it’s still a fair number of options. In addition, ZoogVPN seems to be an active company that takes its customer feedback on board and all users are free to request specific locations.

The three servers available with the free plan did a good job during our speed tests. The baseline values when testing the VPN were a ping of 4ms, a download speed of 627 Mbps and an upload speed of 205 Mpbs. The average speed loss for downloads was about 33% and for uploads 45%. Considering this was tested with its free version, the results are more than satisfactory and can even compete with a few paid VPNs.

That said, this only applies to shared servers since ZoogVPN doesn’t have dedicated IPs available.

Like most companies in the VPN industry, ZoogVPN claims to protect all of its users’ sensitive online data, prevent them from being tracked online, and have no DNS leaks. It also claims to have a strict zero logs policy. But, is this true?

ZoogVPN offers an excellent array of VPN protocols: IKEv2, OpenVPN, WireGuard, and Shadow. The latter is ZoogVPN's own protocol, which uses advanced obfuscation techniques to hide your internet activity. While it’s not as fast as WireGuard or OpenVPN, it’s specially designed to bypass restrictions in censorship-heavy regions.

ZoogVPN protocols

Although free users have to accept 128-bit encryption, paid users unlock 256-bit encryption, which is still the most popular and reliable protocol in the industry. On top of that, ZoogVPN has its own DNS and offers SOCKS5 proxy, which will help with your internet speed.

Additionally, the privacy policy states that the company is a zero logs VPN service and won’t retain any of your information. This is something we can trust since ZoogVPN is based in Greece, a country outside the 14 eyes surveillance alliance. The only information it will keep is the email you use to create the account. When tested against DNS and WebRTC leaks, it proved to be bulletproof.

OS, device support

ZoogVPN is great for anyone looking for a VPN service with a vast range of supported devices. In terms of operating systems, it works on Windows 7 and onwards, on macOS 10+, and on Linux Ubuntu. It also has an app for both iOS and Android and supports other types of devices, such as Android TVs, Firestick, and Blackberry. On top of that, it works with a few of the most popular open-source router firmware like Tomato and DD-WRT.

Just like its interface, this VPN’s features are pretty much the same across devices. We specifically liked that the kill switch is now available on all platforms, which wasn’t the case in the past.

When using a free account, ZoogVPN is only available on one device at a time. However, if you upgrade to the premium account, you can have a maximum of ten devices working simultaneously. While some competitors do offer unlimited simultaneous connections, the industry average is around five to seven, making it a good option for users wanting extensive device support.

Although ZoogVPN offers a completely free version of the service for as long as you want, it’s mostly catered to light browsing and streaming. Those looking for more features and support have three paid plans to choose from. You can get the best deal by subscribing to ZoogVPN's 2-year plan with biennial billing for just $2.49 per month. This includes a 75% discount and 3 months for free.

As usual, shorter billing cycles are more expensive – the monthly plan is $9.99 and the yearly plan is $3.39 per month, which amounts to a 65% discount.

The moment we loaded up ZoogVPN's website, we noticed its fantastic support resources. First and foremost, you can see how open and transparent ZoogVPN is by browsing its Help Center. There are FAQs, in-depth setup tutorials for all supported devices, a DNS and WebRTC leak test, and an online password generator. Alternatively, if you need one-to-one support, you can always use the company’s phone number or email contact form.

Unfortunately, despite claiming 24/7 customer support, after emailing them we didn’t get a reply as fast as we’d like. Nonetheless, when looking to the public’s general feedback, ZoogVPN's support quality is mostly regarded as above average, with many users praising its performance in countries like China and Russia.

ZoogVPN is active on social media, with accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram, and it even has an official Telegram channel.

Bottom line

ZoogVPN is a strong contender in the VPN industry, offering aesthetically pleasing apps, multi-device support, and decent performance. Even though you’ll have to deal with occasional pop-up ads, we especially liked how its free version performed in terms of speed and stability. Considering the 10GB data cap, we recommend it for people using the internet primarily for occasional browsing.

In addition, its paid plans offer a fair number of servers to choose from, split tunneling, an ad blocker, and the most secure encryption protocols on the market (WireGuard, OpenVPN, and Shadow). On top of this, it lets you setup a SOCKS5 proxy server and use the VPN across up to ten devices simultaneously.

ZoogVPN offers some of the best prices on the market and impressive discounts, so if you’re on a budget and looking for a user-friendly, reliable, and stable VPN, ZoogVPN is definitely a stellar choice. For those looking for more advanced features like dedicated IPs, we recommend trying a different VPN solution.
