Why should you post your resume online? Because this way job recruiters can find you easily, plus the more job boards you are registered to the more job offers you can get. And yes, we know that some online resume builders can host the online version of your CVs, but take our advice: use the resume builder for creating resumes and search for jobs on professional job boards like Indeed.comCraigslistBeyond.com and CareerBuilder.

Indeed.com

Indeed.com is a job search website, available in 50 countries and 28 languages via your computer or mobile device, where you just need to start typing in the letters and the search engine enlists hits like Google. If you are an employee, you can upload your resume or create a completely new one and apply with the same resume if the job offer is posted on Indeed.com. You can also forward your resume directly and set job alerts for matches based on predetermined criteria. As an employer, you can post jobs, search for public resumes and contact the job seekers directly.

Craigslist

Craigslist is not an employment website, but who said you cannot use its search engine to search for jobs? You only need to have an account, determine which city you want to start your search in, go to Jobs, click on the preferred job field or if you need to refine your search, just type in the job’s title and you can already start choosing between jobs. Your searches can be saved so you can receive email alerts when a new post is added to that category. The only downside is that you cannot host your resume on this site; you can only send them (usually) via email.

Beyond.com

Beyond.com, a job search engine, is very similar to LinkedIn in many aspects; you can actually create your own portfolio with your contact info, work experience, education and much more. Furthermore, this portfolio can serve as a (complementary) resume which you can share with future employers as a replacement of your regular resume – although you can still send a regular CV every time you apply for a job. You can set email alerts when a job matching your search is added to the list of available opportunities. Beyond.com also has communities you can join and get job field-specific news, and start a conversation under posts. Beyond.com is free of charge, but in order to be a featured employee, see the Twitter job feed or get access to the full profile of employers, you have to upgrade to Premium Membership.

CareerBuilder

At CareerBuilder you can create a portfolio or let the site build it for you based on your existing resume. Speaking of resumes – and cover letters -, you can upload as many as you want, so you can apply to jobs with the most relevant documents. Applying is simple, because CareerBuilder not only lists job offers directing to other sites, but it also has jobs you can apply to via this website. CareerBuilder can recommend jobs based on either job title or location, but you can still search for jobs in the regular way, save them and set email notifications alerting you of new job posts. However, CareerBuilder also provides extra services like advices and resources on job search, resume writing etc., and the career explorer where you can see the average salary of a selected job, what skills you need therefor, and where you have the best chance for application.
