The Best Resume Builders in the Eyes of Redditors

The Best Resume Builders in the Eyes of Redditors

By Zoltán G. Zoltán G. Verified by Sander D. Sander D. Last updated: July 14, 2024 (0)

If you ask the staff behind online resume builders, you will obviously be advised to use such a tool in order to land the job of your dreams. However, as much as we have no intentions in doubting the strengths of resume builders and what they have to offer, it is important to listen to the opinion of regular employees and job seekers. So with that said, it is time to explore what Reddit has to say about resume builders.

The ultimate tool?

There are plenty of Reddit posts where individuals question the usefulness of an online resume builder and want to know which ones are the best, proving that users are indeed interested in using such solutions to earn them a (better) job. However, responses are far from positive: in fact, most Redditors highly discourage others from using resume builders.

According to most of those that comment, anyone who uses such a tool to build a professional looking resume basically turns their CV into a lifeless document that is easily recognized and immediately disregarded by recruiters and employers. Instead Redditors recommend looking for templates on the internet, using your own word editor – MS Word or LibreOffice, for instance – to customize the document and then upload your finalized CV to the /r/resumes subreddit to ask for feedback from fellow users and resume writing professionals.

Speaking of professionals, they provide useful and thorough feedback, but they also advertise their very own, personalized writing services to those who are willing to go to the extremes when it comes to creating the ultimate resume.

Resume builders: the Reddit-supported list

Sadly none of the resume builders that we have reviewed and recommended have been mentioned by Redditors as a potential solution. In fact, there is even a subreddit where the credibility of LiveCareer is questioned – mostly due to the pricing policy that we also criticized – and to our shock My Perfect Resume has also shared the same fate.

But with regards to this, it is not at all surprising that most Redditors are looking for free of charge solutions. The three names we came across the most are Kedals.comCV Maker and Rezi.io, all of which offer professional resume creating services without obliging you to subscribe to a paid plan. However, take user-recommended resume builders with a pinch of salt: many of the comments depicting these tools in a positive way are in fact written by the respective employees of these sites, reducing the already damaged credibility of these companies.

To listen to Reddit or not to listen to Reddit?

That is indeed a good question and it is hard to answer. Do not forget that the resume builders we feature in our articles are just recommendations; it is your right to pick anything else or use a template you found on the internet.

However, if there is one piece of advice you should stick to, it’s this: try out resume builders before you make a decision. Resume companies offer limited free trials of their builders or a money back guarantee for those who have subscribed to their services but are, ultimately, far from satisfied with the services.
