Switching over to a completely new technology is always a huge step in anyone’s life, especially when it comes to something big like moving existing fax systems over to the cloud.
Basically, ditching the old telephone cables in favor of an internet-based solution is akin to taking a leap of faith – unless, of course, you are well prepared for such a jump into the unknown.
For most people the best method of learning about online fax services is reading reviews on dedicated sites. But the honest opinions of those using such services can be just as valuable as a detailed review – and there is no better place for such raw opinions than Reddit.
Before you jump into conclusions, let’s make one thing perfectly clear: there are very few Redditors who discourage others from using online fax services, but that doesn’t mean that they unanimously validate this method of communication.
Thankfully users asking fax related questions are never mocked, but every single time it is suggested that there is no other option to send an important document than through fax you can be sure that there will be one Redditor who just rolls their eyes in disbelief upon learning that there are companies in the 21st century that still heavily rely on this means of file transfer. Certain users even consider the whole technology obsolete, with some actually being surprised that faxing hasn’t gone extinct yet.
Like we said, only a few Redditors make jokes about faxing; the majority of users always try their best to help those in doubt about something, whether it be selecting the right service or hooking up the old faxing machine to the internet. In fact, in taking a deeper look at what others have to say about pairing up an analog fax machine to a VoIP network, we were shocked by the answers – but in a very positive sense.
The answers are not only polite – which is, in all honesty, a huge surprise on the internet these days – but they are so thorough that they give the impression that they were written by IT experts. Most of these comments tackle everything related to sending and receiving faxes over VoIP from listing most of the problems that could occur to telling users what kind of analog adapter should be considered for the best online faxing experience.
But, as always, there are those who think that old fax machines with adapters are not worth it at all and, instead, encourage others to either ditch faxing completely or keep at least one copper wire just for this purpose.
After going through fax related questions it is pretty obvious that not too many people have kept their fax machines and usually deal with fax strictly when necessary. So, it’s not surprising at all that most fax-related Reddit threads revolve around the search for a reliable service with which faxes can be sent on an occasional basis and without paying a single dime.
The free online faxing service that is mentioned the most is FaxZero – a solution we have also touched upon briefly – but some Redditors recommend k7.net or the free plan of HelloFax, which is mostly praised for its quick signup alongside an existing Google account to get started.
However, what was surprising – and we mean that in a positive way – is that there are also comments that wisely suggest trying the same as we do, namely trying out a paid online faxing service through a free trial period.
The general consensus about the best-known paid online faxing providers is that no matter which company is chosen, most users are pretty satisfied with what they get.
For instance, Nextiva and RingCentral are usually mentioned in a positive light – although in the case of the latter it’s worth mentioning that there are users who acknowledge that they were not entirely satisfied with the overall reliability of the company’s services when they were subscribers.
The same can be said about eFax, since many people are aware that the service – and j2 Global, the owner – has some terrible ratings from its customers and a rather questionable policy regarding number porting. Still, none of these problems were able to stop eFax (and its sibling services) from being proclaimed by Reddit as the best paid online faxing service on the market.
