Thanks to social media giants like Facebook and Instagram, more and more people are sharing their best photos with loved ones and friends. These two sites have also brought about a new renaissance for the photo book market, too, in the form of tools that enable avid social media users to create quality photo books from favorite photos in no time. PastBook and My Social Book are both equally up to this task, but they have a bit different approach: PastBook is for innovators, while My Social Book is for those who prefer speed and cost-friendliness. So which is better for you?

Overview comparison for PastBook, My Social Book

PastBook

Simplicity is the key word with PastBook: although customization of the front cover, the layout and the photo backgrounds are pretty limited, the online editor is capable of putting together a stylish photo book of up to 500 pages – even in eBook format – from your Facebook and Instagram accounts, or any picture source you like. Social media is definitely the forte of PastBook, though, as the program seamlessly imports photos from albums, groups, pages, and even captions or hashtags. Additionally, PastBook users can create so-called Friendship Books in which the editor collects pictures where you and a selected friend are together.

PastBook

The company is also pretty innovative, since it provides its customers with three iOS applications and the option to ask a professional to create the photo book for you. But the real mind-blower is PastBot, a chatbot that puts together a photo book by simply sending photos to Facebook Messenger.

Although prices of PastBook products start from $20.40, there are plenty of options to reduce the total, ranging from various (and temporary) discounts to the simple yet generous option of upgrading your book with a hard cover, entitling you to free shipping within the U.S.

My Social Book

If you thought PastBook’s editor was simplified – in a positive sense – then My Social Book‘s photo book builder is the definition of the word ‘simple’. By providing a determined period of time the editor will fetch everything from your Facebook or Instagram account – including posts, albums, comments, and photo captions – and create a neat little photo book in under 90 seconds, containing between 25-475 pages in total.

My Social Book

Editing a photo book with My Social Book’s builder doesn’t require expert knowledge in design, since only the cover can be customized by using any of the 13 front cover layout options; everything else is handled automatically. Default books – including the most advertised product, My Best-of Social Book – are already convenient in size and appearance, but can be upgraded at any time with deluxe silk photo paper and a hard cover with a glossy or matte finish.

Aside from My Best-of Social Book, My Social Book photo books don’t have fixed price tags; however, the cheapest, 25-page soft cover book costs only $12, and that price doesn’t change significantly when more pages are added to the book. To make things better, all books come with a 30-day money back guarantee, plus shipping within the U.S. is just $3.99.

Conclusion

Even though both PastBook and My Social Book are catering to avid social media users, there are plenty of differences between the two services.

If you prefer innovation then PastBook is your choice, since the company’s many handy features creates a service that can be used in a wide variety of ways. The fact that PastBook photo books can include up to 500 pages alongside whatever witty captions and hashtags you originally had means there’s pretty much no limit to your creation.

But if you prefer a service that can simply yet quickly put together your photo book for you in no time for relatively cheap prices, then My Social Book is the editor for you. There are admittedly more limited customization options with My Social Book, but the quick creation time – and the money back guarantee – makes up for this.

User feedback

Stupidly i tried it again and it is even worse! They got the dates wrong, left out content and the pics were blurry.

  2. Beth Everett

This is no longer true.  Due to new facebook privacy rules, My social Book no longer includes comments, articles, shared posts, etc. It is just blurry pictures.  I just received my tenth year and the change is abysmal. I have tried getting customer service to address the issue but they just blame Facebook. And when I say they should be up front about the changes they just send a canned response saying they are working to improve, blah, blah, blah.

I have not tried PastBook but I will never use My Social Book again.
