They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that has been quite true for me. Being a part of a global team with members strewn across the globe and situated at various locations, I found it extremely necessary to go with a VPN service provider to ensure that our work was carried out smoothly and safely, too.

After a lot of research, I finally zeroed in on HideMyAss to serve my VPN needs. HideMyAss happens to be the leading VPN service provider in the United Kingdom, and that was to my advantage, as I had team members working from London. The main reason I went for HideMyAss as opposed to other VPN service providers, is the sheer number of anonymous IP addresses they offered; close to 25,000.

Setting it up

Setting up the HideMyAss VPN is pretty straightforward and intuitive. I was required to create a VPN account with them, after which I needed to download the VPN software. Once the software was downloaded on my PC, it was installed within a few clicks. Using the VPN was just a matter of logging in with my account details, and clicking “Connect” Once the VPN is connected, all my online activities were tunneled through one of their VPN servers, and later became anonymous and safe.

Support

HideMyAss provides fast and efficient support through live chat, email and online forums. I had very few hiccups along the way, and I received quick, to-the-point instructions via email that helped me resolve my issues in an instant.

Issues

While the support service was adequate up to an extent, I often felt the need for telephonic help. Adding this feature would probably be a good idea. Furthermore, I recently found that HideMyAss does retain some user related information with itself. The company apparently maintains logs of only the logging times and nothing else, but then, one can never be sure of this.

Conclusion

At the end of it all, I found this VPN service to be extremely useful and user-friendly, as well. It does have its negative points, but the benefits of the service more than make up for it.

Pros: Easy to use interface, multiple servers, speed, and multiple countries. price, try before you buy. Cons: Tech support on line only, dns leaks at some servers, they log usage and claim that all VPNs do. Security with this company is highly suspect.
