Breaking news for the VPN world and for CyberGhost subscribers in particular: the Romanian-based company was recently acquired by Crossrider Limited, a London-based online distribution and digital product company originating from Israel. While the deal is fruitful for both parties, some users still fear that now the Crossrider group will not only be in charge of their VPN experience, but could also get its hands on their user logs. However, as stated by CyberGhost’s CEO Robert Knapp, clients can rest assured that everything will remain the same, and both companies will emerge from the deal stronger than ever.

A millionaire deal and a stronger appeal

If you love to see the numbers behind company acquisitions, prepare your mouth going agape: the UK/Israeli company had to pay something as €9.1 million (approximately $9.8 million) to fully acquire CyberGhost. For those who are not familiar with the acquirer, Crossrider began with developing ad tech products and distributing browser extensions, which Robert Knapp highlights in its blog post, is exactly the opposite of CyberGhost’s purpose: to deliver safe and private internet access. However, as Ido Erlichman, Crossrider’s CEO, stated the company wanted to enter into the field of cyber security as well and that’s exactly where CyberGhost (and its acquisition) comes into play. According to Erlichman, this expansion is significant from a strategic point of view, since it allows a great amount of growth opportunity.

CyberCross or GhostRider?

Although the deal is still fresh, not much is known about what the future will hold for both companies. Nevertheless, Robert Knapp revealed that during the discussion of the acquisition that the parties also gave space for debating the vision, strategy and opportunities for the future of CyberGhost VPN. In fact, Knapp assured that there are already ideas for new products and services that will be released once the merger is complete. Hearing about the new possibilities pleased Erlichman as well, who expressed how excited he is to be involved in further developing Crossrider’s B2C (business-to-consumer) market and providing millions of worldwide users with the best privacy solutions.

However, despite CyberGhost’s guarantee that everything will stay the same, some users still expressed concerns regarding connection logs, one of the most valuable features of the company. Since Crossrider operates from the UK, a country known for its close online rules, that issue is rather significant. To end with, despite the future surely looking bright, only time will tell how Crossrider and CyberGhost will end up working together and, most importantly, what they can offer their users. But the question remains the same: will the world witness the birth of a brand new GhostRider VPN?
