CyberGhost Reports on The State of Transparency in 2015

CyberGhost Reports on The State of Transparency in 2015

By Daniel C.Daniel C. Verified by Sander D.Sander D. Last updated: July 24, 2024 (0)

Famed VPN company CyberGhost has released its annual transparency report. The company’s assessment contains not only statistics, but sentiments on the current state of VPN, and “influence of wealth on privacy in various regions of the world; encryption as a digital weapon in the 21st century and other relevant information about privacy.” All quotes in this article originate from CyberGhost’s Transparency Report.

The numbers

In terms of safety and misbehavior within CyberGhost, a three sided division is used, just like in the case of most legal bodies. For DMCA complaints, there has been a significant decrease – 21% overall. Police requests were also sparser by about 24%, with only six per month average. However, there has been a 310% increase to about 400 per month in malware and other “malicious activities.” Thus, it seems that petty wrongdoers were more common during 2015. In our opinion, this can be partially attributed to the fact that CyberGhost now works with one and a half times more customers than in 2014. Another important factor is that laws governing internet access and content have become more strict during the last five years. CyberGhost is determined to illustrate the harmful effect of politics on internet privacy.

Staying true to privacy rights

The company’s IP addresses that have come under attack from wrongdoers who were not customers were treated specifically. Most often, access to the addresses themselves was blocked. CyberGhost emphasizes that there is still a lack of action taken against any form of online misbehavior by “tech companies and industry leaders.” Building on the basic human right of Right to Privacy, CyberGhost continues not to keep logs of their customers’ actions and aligns itself with democratic ideals.

To further add our own thoughts to this, it is great to see that the subscriber as an individual is respected at CyberGhost. The company’s privacy policy was already a favorable one, and with this confirmation you can safely bet on being provided with a private online environment that has better internet freedom than any country. We are also keen on the stance CyberGhost takes on issues of privacy and safety. With more and more people using the internet, there are more and more select individuals who wish to cause harm. We agree with the organization in that such problems must be addressed and aided, but not via over sanctioning the internet with restrictive laws. There is just one thing we would like to add. We would like to encourage you to practice responsible internet use. It is well possible that since the number of restrictions are growing, you might commit something that was declared illegal and you had no knowledge about it. Regardless of you using a VPN service or not, always educate yourself on the internet law of the country you reside in and plan your actions based on that knowledge.
