Concerns About Badoo’s Privacy

With its mobile app becoming increasingly important, Badoo’ers are letting the dating company track their footsteps 24/7 to match them with other nearby singles.

Concerns about this type of GPS-enabled hook-up have been exacerbated by the sexual assault of several minors in recent months, leading many social networking organizations to start tightening security and implementing greater controls. Sadly, three users of one particular site suffered abuse, despite the corporation firmly believing that their systems of controls and checks would be sufficient to ensure users safety. Obviously predators develop as fast as the security systems and come up with ever more sophisticated methods of cracking systems and breaking security protocols on social media websites all the time.

Cynics say that these involuntary applications opened on behalf of genuine customer’s entire contact list could explain Badoo’s phenomenal increase of over a hundred thousand users per day – it would be interesting to see how many accounts are closed each day; sadly that information is not freely available!

Warned by Facebook

Facebook, the social networking giant has even had to tell Badoo to rein in the ‘viral’ effect of its Facebook application or risk permanently losing permission to operate within the site, in an effort to retain the integrity of its own users.

Badoo claims to take the security of their user’s privacy very seriously; however they have scored very badly in surveys and questionnaires on the subject. Many users have taken advantage of offers to get ‘special powers’ for free in exchange for allowing Badoo to access Facebook contacts. Almost all received concerned messages from contacts, including long-lost girlfriends, their mums and business contacts from address books NOT on Facebook, the implication being that Badoo ‘mines’ this data, by accessing email contacts and so forth without the necessary permissions. Many of these contacts were told via email, that they now had a Badoo account and to log in to take advantage of all the offers available.
