Best VPNs for Online Gambling

Even though online casinos and gambling sites are clawing each other’s eyes out to see who can attract the most players, there is another common challenge they’re all facing: the blocking of their websites in certain countries. The reasons may vary: sometimes governments issue a block on certain gambling sites they deem harmful for their citizens, but it’s also possible that the website itself denies access because running the service isn’t lucrative enough in your country. That’s where we come in as we will explain to you how the use of a VPN can unlock full access to those gambling and betting websites, while simultaneously enjoying fast and secure connections.

Unblocking gambling sites

Thankfully, unblocking these websites is easier than getting a royal straight flush… much easier indeed. All you need is a Virtual Network Provider (VPN) since these will help you circumvent geo-blocks that withhold you from accessing their website from your country. VPNs work on a server-location basis so you’ll want to choose a provider that features a decent amount of servers in a larger variety of countries, since you’ll need to connect to a country where geo-blocks are not applied. Also, since the vast majority support multiple connections and different devices, including mobile (Android, iOS and, in some cases, Windows Phone) you can also make use of the VPN protection while gambling remotely and use it in conjunction with the casino, poker and betting mobile apps.

Just like in a real casino, eyes will be on you. The encryption a VPN service applies to your connection makes that all your data is encrypted so eavesdroppers can’t go through your gambling activities. Another important aspect in safeguarding your data and identity is the fact that your VPN connection changes your IP address. While connected to the VPN service your public IP will be that of the VPN server. Even with unhindered access, when connected to a VPN server you’ll be given a shared IP address. As we have covered before, this can get tricky since some poker and other gambling sites can detect if you are connected via VPN so getting a dedicated IP that is only available to you is advised.

Minimizing speed loss

When playing online poker you’ll want to get a decently fast connection, since you’ll likely be very upset if you lose those pocket rockets due to a drop in connection. Still, there are some features worthy of your attention. On one hand, the server location is important since the average speed of a determined server will depend on factors such as how crowded it is and your physical proximity to it. On the other hand, protocol choice is also important as these are responsible for your safety and speed. Most VPN providers will offer you the standard protocol choices between OpenVPN, IKEv2, PPTP, SSTP, and L2TP-IPsec among other, less common options. If you want to focus on speed alone, then make sure your choice will fit that goal best. You can check our previous article covering the different details surrounding protocols and what they are best used for.

  1. Phil Weedlun

Nord doesn’t even have a Nevada location. Still trying to find a VPN that actually works. Surfshark has a tower but still can’t fool MGM or even Southpoint

    1. Hi Phil, thank you for leaving a comment! Have you tried Private Internet Access? This VPN has a server in Nevada, along with every other U.S. state. We also recommend NordVPN. Let us know how you get on 🙂
