Astrill vs IPVanish Comparison

Astrill vs IPVanish Comparison

By Tamás Ő.Tamás Ő. Verified by Sander D.Sander D. Last updated: August 20, 2024 (0)

The western style of marketing often focuses on highlighting certain outstanding effects of products, some specific traits that make them worthy of purchasing (even if the rest is rubbish). We too have dealt with such products, but this article is an exception. Both Astrill and IPVanish do not strictly fit this scheme. They shine out instead with their consistency and eye for detail; all aspects of their services are steady, of good quality – but nothing extra. We are going to examine details of these in this comparison.

Overview comparison for Astrill, IPVanish

Astrill

Astrill is perhaps not the best service if you are new to the world of VPN. The main purpose of such a service is to provide protection while hiding your presence online. Astrill offers multiple other features on top of this basic functionality that might not even be necessary if you are just looking for more safe browsing, for example. Nevertheless, tools like a web cache or an NAT firewall might come in handy for the simplest of tasks as well. Other features include private IP addresses, port forwarding, an app filter and DD-WRT support. The problem with these extras is that they’re not free; all of them must be paid for individually. In turn, you can enjoy these at several other companies for free – either one or more of them.

Astrill

Astrill is still a great service in itself, though; take their Linux client for example, which is more rarely seen on VPN grounds, and the simplicity and ease of use also deserves praise from us.

IPVanish

IPVanish is a service that saw steady improvement since they have begun dealing with VPN. Participating in the computer business since 1998, IPVanish is no stranger to the twists and turns of the IT road. As with Astrill, the main strength of their service is… everything. There is no one summit on the mountain of IPVanish, rather you can go up high, and enjoy the view from a plateau. This means that the average quality of theirs is great. Speeds are fine, and servers are equipped with dynamic IPs, though you share these with other customers. The top encryptions of the day are also yours, from the more ineffective PPTP to the current best, OpenVPN.

The prices themselves are a bit less flattering compared to Astrill (or other VPN companies), and we are not sure if it is worth saying good bye to an extra dollar or two per month. IPVanish has built up its fame over the course of the past few years, so we can see why they chose these costs. They can simply get away with it.

Conclusion

In our opinion, “slow” and steady is also a good way to go (no worries, Astrill and IPVanish are both decent with speeds). The fact that all aspects of their respective services are of high quality is probably even harder to attain than just focusing on one, and thus we respect both companies for finding success, despite not being as aggressive with their marketing as others. They are both worthy of checking out: Astrill for their elaborate features and general proficiency, and IPVanish for essentially everything else. This sort of variety is welcomed by us in the VPN world.
