Overview comparison for ZenMate, NordVPN

ZenMate

ZenMate is a German VPN company that delivers its service via a handful of apps for desktops and mobile devices, naturally including a number of extraordinary web browser extensions. In fact, the latter is one of ZenMate’s biggest strengths due to the additional tools it brings, which includes protection against malware and web trackers, and the so-called ZenMate Identity Shield that warns users if their account has been compromised. Other features such as a kill switch and EverSecure – an auto-reconnect tool – are available in the normal desktop and mobile clients.

ZenMate

But sadly, using ZenMate is quite a shot in the dark since connections are very inconsistent, making it impossible to predict just how well the VPN will behave. Most of the time its speeds are good, but they might drop as suddenly as they rise again, which results in a clumsy and frustrating experience. ZenMate also suffers from DNS leaks, only adding to its troubles.

ZenMate can be purchased on a regular monthly, semiannual or annual basis, with the final option being the best. However, Best Reviews has an exclusive 15-month promotional plan costing the same $59.99 as the annual subscription, with the bonus of doubling the refund time to 30 days. This translates to a free month of risk-free service or three months of bonus use for free.

NordVPN

There are some VPNs that are immediately associated with a certain feature that they provide, and Panama’s NordVPN is one such service. The key word is security as it’s one of the very few products that can call itself a double VPN; it applies the same level of encryption twice to a server connection to make it as secure as it can be. On top of that the company also supports a vast range of devices with apps for computers and mobile, manual configurations for routers and browser extensions as well.

The VPN network is one of the biggest in the world, too, with over 2,600 servers in 56 countries, more than enough to provide global coverage and even offers some rarely seen locations. NordVPN also divides up its servers according to users’ needs. Among the many options are anti-DDoS and P2P file sharing, for instance, but the most noticeable is the double VPN servers that applies the fancy double encryption.

All this comes at a surprisingly affordable price as well. None of the three plans are too expensive but subscribing to the longest option costs only $79 every two years, a plan for which a 30-day refund time also applies.

Conclusion

Comparing ZenMate and NordVPN quite easily shows that the latter is a much more complete tool . Don’t get us wrong, it’s not that NordVPN is the best and ZenMate is the worse, not at all, but there’s no denying that the Panamanian company offers a top service, while the German one still has a long way to go. NordVPN is splendid when it comes to security as there’s no defeating a double-encryption barrier, something ZenMate simply can’t compete with since it still suffers from basic DNS leaks, for example. However, it does have an advantage since stronger encryption levels mean slower connection speeds, which is where NordVPN can suffer. ZenMate’s speeds are above average but the inconsistent connections are a shame that ultimately costs it a few places on the VPN league table.
