SpyOFF is a VPN service offered by Sareta S.r.l, a company headquartered in the Republic of San Marino. Although they are settled in Italian lands, both the website and the desktop app we tested were clearly made to please a German-speaking user since this is the only language available besides English. SpyOFF offers a decent VPN that will allow you to circumvent all kinds of geo-blocks, besides granting you an anonymous and more secure web browsing experience thanks to solid encryption, despite there being few protocol choices available. This German-speaking Italian VPN provider boasts support for different devices and operating systems, including computers, mobile devices and the always handy router purchase option for an extra extensive protection. A 15-day free trial account isn’t such a rare sight in the VPN world, but one that gives you access to the complete service, including all servers, isn’t very common. If you decide to subscribe after this trial you get to choose between three paid subscription packs with discounts available.
SpyOff is no longer available. While it’s still possible to download the VPN service from unofficial sources, we don’t recommend doing it due to the possibility of the program containing malware. Check the best alternatives below.
SpyOFF can be considered a simple VPN service as its features the main components we would expect from a fairly decent program. Although there are no over the top super exclusive features that you won’t find anywhere else, the company commits to providing a more generally-known and easy to use service. Considering this, they surely deliver as setup is easy and the Windows desktop app we tried runs without major bumps. That said, it could happen that all other features present in the client are blocked when you are connected to a certain server, and all you can do is disconnect from it.
This is probably the biggest point in favor of SpyOFF, and one that we congratulate the company for. Your 15-day free trial account will get you access to the entire service, unlimited bandwidth and data transfer included, therefore, there are no features blocked for paid subscriptions only and the entire server network is available from the start. This way you have more than enough time to figure your way around things and, by the time your free trial ends, If you decide to invest in this VPN at least you know what you’re buying.
After downloading the desktop client, we figured our way around SpyOff very easily through the simple and straightforward interface. We did find a minor annoyance upon installation; SpyOFF’s default language is German, but the truth is that, fortunately, there is an option to immediately change it to English.
Nevertheless, the desktop client’s settings feature some important aspects worth highlighting such as the protocol choice being totally up to you between the three main ones, and the fact that you can also choose if you want to launch the app automatically. Furthermore, you can choose what you want the app to do if your connection gets interrupted: nothing at all, retrying the connection and – most interestingly – activating the kill switch function.
SpyOFF’s VPN network is not the greatest we’ve ever seen, despite still having a considerable amount of servers worldwide. Featuring around 300 servers in 21 countries, you’ll have about 14,000 IP addresses to connect to. A nice little detail that this VPN provider holds is the fact that, while on the desktop app, when you’re searching for servers you can see that all of them tell you their respective ping, a useful feature that will save you time. You can also filter servers by “Ultra Secure”, “Balanced” and “Highspeed”.
We’ve run a couple of tests to assess the speed of their servers and found out that European servers feature decently acceptable speeds probably due to their proximity to SpyOFF’s headquarters and this reviewer’s. The major downside we found though was the fact that overseas servers, such as U.S. and Australian ones (the ones we tested) have lousy speeds, way below acceptable standards, and ridiculously high pings. We understand that overseas servers are harder ones to obtain decent stable connections from, but still, their server network’s speed in general is very disappointing.
Another issue we found by accident is the fact that some server information is inaccurate. In short, all servers we tried to connect to in Singapore, for example, ended up attributing us an American IP address and server, and the same happened for South Korean servers. Just out of curiosity we’ve run speed tests on this Singaporean/American server and on a server carrying an American flag, and results were similar.
After a bumpy ride on the server network we arrive on a more peaceful field. In fact, there aren’t any major issues regarding privacy protection that we could point fingers for at SpyOFF, although there is room for improvement here as well. SpyOFF protects you information with strong 256-bit SSL encryption besides letting you choose your protocol. Here your options are OpenVPN (TCP/UDP), PP2P and L2TP. This VPN offers DNS leak protection but, only after establishing a connection. As for the negative points, besides promising a no-log usage of their services, a quick look through their privacy policy page lets you discover that Sareta S.r.l stores the URL referrer, your IP address, date and time of usage. Also, data is indeed saved due to legal obligations and only deleted if these obligations are terminated, besides collecting your personal information for billing purposes.
Regarding device and operating system support the good news is that SpyOFF features extensive support with dedicated apps for Windows – 7, 8 and 10 – macOS, Android, iOS – iPad and iPhone – and Linux Ubuntu with the possibility of using multiple logins under the same account. Also, we salute the partnership with FlashRouters that lets you purchase a DD-WRT fully configurable router and extend your protection to an unlimited number of devices. This will only get you the router itself though, as a SpyOFF subscription is not included and must be acquired separately.
Regarding installation support, there are good text-only step-by-step short setup guides for all supported devices. Although images or videos would be a worthy addition on all setup guides other than routers as well, truth is the guides are simple and accurate and we didn’t really need them for our experience. Nevertheless it is important that we can count and rely on them if any issues arise. An interesting element that SpyOFF features is the existence of a “manual and optional expert settings” guide for those who want to set their protection more accurately in terms of the best protocol to choose from, among other useful tips and hints. This enhanced care is available for all operating systems supported, with the exception of Windows 10.
As we already covered, the free trial account will provide you 15 days of free full access to the complete service without any restrictions whatsoever. SpyOFF begins by offering three different subscription periods. The first one, called Starter, will give you the exact same access to all servers in 21 countries, full bandwidth and unlimited data transfer that you have in the free account with a cost of $11.23 per month billed monthly. Next, the Premium plan will cost you $7.86 per month and, once again, gives you full access with a 30% annual discounted price compared to monthly single payments since this one is billed yearly ($94.32 per year). Just like the latter, the Premium Plus is also billed yearly with a cost of $12.35 per month – something like $148.20 per year – offering two extra features power users will appreciate. It boasts 1GB of Usenet access and tips and tricks for fully exploiting the service, in addition to the same full access as the other packs.
Please note that all the aforementioned prices were converted by us to American dollars since SpyOFF only allows payments in euros. These payments can be done using credit cards, direct debit, PayPal and Bitcoin. Besides the last three not being shown as a payment method on the pricing page, they seem to be assured since they are listed in the terms of service.
SpyOFF is present and quite active on all major social media networks including Facebook and Twitter, although they seem to be deploying it more as an advertising tool rather than a method of answering user questions. Not to mention that everything is written in German only, and the same happens with the blog. Their FAQ is goodish although it lacks some more specific and detailed information (like questions relating the information present in the expert setup guide for instance) and the only way to directly contact SpyOFF’s staff is to fill out an e-mail form since live chat or 24/7 support are not an option.
It’s clear that this provider is taking its first steps into the world of VPNs as the website and overall service leave an unfinished impression. There are the server inaccuracies, the language barrier on both the site and apps, and other aspects that show that there is still quite a long road to be covered. This doesn’t mean you should discard this provider right away, though. All of the aforementioned shows that there’s room for improvement as quality and good intentions are there. Features like the useful kill switch, server filtering in the desktop app, the fact that these show you their ping right away and the expert guide setup are all aspects that work in favor of SpyOFF and that, if polished, can turn this into a first line VPN service.

SpyOff is horrible, just the worst. Huge regret giving money to these jerks. It’s true that they will continue to charge you after you have cancelled, and if you contact customer service telling them this they tell you to go screw yourself. The service doesn’t work consistently, and I’m actually having to get another service for that reason. I logged out while trying to troubleshoot it not working, and then when i tried to log back in i discovered that I had forgotten my password – and there no way to retrieve it. the “forgot password” link takes you to their sales page, and thats it. This is really a huge scam of a service and I cant believe that companies like this even manage to stay alive, when their product is just expensive garbage. Death to SpyOff!
I doubt this is a real review, did the vpn owners make this one up…? The servers are awful. It’s almost impossible to use this service as it is rubbish and open to lots of security flaws. Be careful,
Don’t try it honestly. Once they have your details, they rob your money. Beware of all VPN’s from this republic.
Liars and scammers take your money even though you cancel. Do not trust. The service doesn’t work and their money back guarantee is a lie. Change your bank account number else they continue to rob you. Utter scum.
The same thing happened to me. How did they get my PayPal account? I didn’t sign up for this service.. Be careful. I believe the positive comments come from Spyoff. The only way to contact them is through email and they don’t respond. Total ripoff. I’m filing a complaint with the attorney general’s office. I called PayPal and I have to wait 30 days and might get a refund. This Spyoff company will definitely take advantage of your PayPal account and charge you. Be CAREFUL, DINT OPEN THEIR VIDEO.
They are a total rip-off and misleading!
I cancelled my account after a day or 2 from sign up, I thought clicking the very small link on cancelling the account would be enough, but I didn’t know it was automatically signed to my Paypal account as recurring payment.
No clear instructions or advise on how to cancel, they are totally going to scam you! Be careful on signing up!
The same thing happened to me. They also ignored my second email and had no customer service skills. They are a horrible company to deal with!
I really like the SpyOFF network. Their servers are very fast and it seems like servers are getting added very frequently. I have not experienced any language barriers as mentioned above. Everything was explained in english so no problems for that.
Server inaccuracies are also not something that i have experienced. Probably they have fixed this, too? Or does someone else still have these problems.
Since i did not need to contact their support yet i can not tell you anything about that.
The fact that they are seemingly improving that fast and that they are already one of the fastestes providers make SpyOFF the perfect VPN for me.
The thing that i really liked about spyoff was their speed. I often use their vpn for torrents and i did not yet achieve higher speeds with any other server. great!
The free trial convinced me testing SpyOFF. It’s a very fast and reliable VPN Client. If you need help you can use the great costumer service. You will get an helpful answer very quickly. Besides the client-download is very easy. All in all it’s a good service at a fair price! 🙂
I´ve had some problems with finding an easy to use and decent VPN. The most vpn I tested, where really hard to understand for me. Maybe great technic but I am not the best with computers. With this spyoff client I only had to click “Connect” and everything worked fine. Now I can watch my favorite TV show on my laptop, when I am in Holyday. Because normally this is blocked outside of my country. As far as I can say, everything works fine. Sometimes the videos load a bit longer. But I can not say if it is from the hotel internet or spyof.
I am very disappointed in Spyoff. I just watched the video & didn’t even know I signed up for a free trial & then they billed me for a full year. They don’t have a phone number on the website that you can contact. I emailed them for a credit and they refused so I cancelled my card. They say they prevent others from stealing your data, but I feel that is exactly what Spyoff did!
Fast VPN
I was satisfied with SpyOFF during the free trial period, so I decided to continue my subscription.
I tested several VPN providers, which were completely free, but after using SpyoFF i never would go back to one of those.
I know, it is costly, but I also think it is very much worth it. Free providers do not have this amount of servers. When one of their server is under maintainance or reached its capacity and you need to do stuff urgently you cannot do anything but wait. Everybody should consider to pay a little money to switch to a “real” VPN provider. I just used SpyOFF, so I cannot say which one is best – honestly I would not know the difference as I am no expert in this field, but what I saw of SpyOFF really pleasures me:
The various server are located in almost every country – at least the important ones for my uses. The connection is very stable, fast. Downloadrate is also very fast.
It is very easy to use and setting up and they offer different protocols. I always use Ultra secure, which works best for me.
Conclusion: Just try it 🙂
I have searched for a long time, to find a service that dosnt limit the amount of connectable devices. All the other big companys limit their service to 3 or 5 devices. I wanted to have a service where I can connect as much as I would like to. I now found SpyOFF and have to admit that so far I am really satisfied. I have not tried to get support or anything because everything works fine. If this change, I will comeback and change my comment.
Great review. I am using Spyoff for about 2 months now. I am pretty happy so far. The client is very easy to handle for me and the speed is ok. I can recommend giving them a chance. I am currently using them to view some websites in my own country (I am currently working abroad) and to stay private
SpyOff’s client was a bit buggy and gave me IP Addresses from countries I had not selected, but aside from that all worked well. I like that SpyOff allows unlimited connections!
I’m really happy with this VPN-service because SpyOFF is met all my expectations. Now I can surf on the internet without being afraid of hackers or data thieves. Generally a good quality at a fair price.
