Although SiteLock VPN is not the most beautiful service out there, it’s pretty straightforward and easy to use. Though, it comes at the expense of restricted customization and limited features. Nevertheless, it offers the most popular encryption protocols, IKEv2 and OpenVPN (TCP and UDP), and comes with a few neat features to make sure you are never unprotected.

Keeping your connection private

SiteLock VPN combines a kill switch with an auto-reconnect function to make sure your VPN is always running when you’re connected to the internet. If the VPN service loses connection at any moment, the kill switch will disconnect you from the internet to protect you from being caught out in the open. At the same time, the auto-reconnect will try to connect to the nearest server possible right way, so you’ll quickly be back online while also freeing you from the hassle of doing the reconnection yourself. However, these features come disabled by default so make sure you go to the options and activate them before starting using SiteLock VPN.

Unblocking streaming services and torrenting

Although SiteLock VPN doesn’t have dedicated servers for either unblocking streaming services or torrenting, it is possible to do so. It’s not in SiteLock’s marketing strategy to state that they unblock streaming services but since it has servers throughout the world it should be able to unblock many streaming services. What we found is that SiteLock is able to bypass some popular streaming services’ restrictions helped in part because SiteLock uses IPVanish’s VPN servers. However, the scramble feature that is supposed to bypass VPNs blockages didn’t seem to make a difference since the same websites were unblocked, regardless of being it enabled or disabled.

When it comes to torrenting, SiteLock has servers in two countries seen as a paradise for torrent downloaders – Spain and the Netherlands. The former lets you download anything with the purpose of personal use, while the latter’s laws make it legal to download works of art. We tested ourselves, and both servers were able to maintain stable speeds around the 2MB/s mark.

The servers are reliable as well, and we were able to use the VPN for long periods of time without encountering any disconnections. On top of that, it’s also excellent that servers loads are always below the 50% mark, something that is rarely seen in other rival networks.

SiteLock offers DNS leak protection as well. From the tests we conducted while using a few random servers, we can confirm that it works and there were no leaks found. It’s important to note that, if you run your own tests, the routers that appear are from IPVanish and not SiteLock.

Like its features, SiteLock’s platform support is pretty simple. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. In other words, consoles, smart TVs, routers, and other devices that you may want to install a VPN on are off the table.

Nevertheless, the mobile app is user-friendly and straightforward. On the home page, you can quickly choose between AES-256 and AES-128 encryption, select the country that you want to connect to, and start the secured connection. Although it’s a bummer that user-friendliness comes at the expense of a few features. Contrary to the desktop version, it’s not possible to pick the IKev2 protocol (only OpenVPN is available), and there is no sight of the kill switch. The latter is a significant loss. It’s more usual to access public networks with a phone than a desktop, so that’s where you want to make sure that, if the VPN disconnects, internet access is also unplugged. Without the kill switch, if the VPN disconnects for whatever reason, you will be exposed until it connects again.

Unfortunately, the prices are not as user-friendly as the software. Compared to its competitors, SiteLock VPN ends up being a little pricey when we take into account the lack of features. Sitelock VPN’s monthly price is $9.99, but you can get a discount by applying for a longer-term period. The lowest you can get SiteLock VPN for is $3.99 per month by getting the two-year plan, saving 60% every month. However, if you feel that two years is a long time, you can also opt for the one-year program, which costs $5.99 per month – a 40% discount. Regardless of the plan you go for, each license works with up to five devices.

Unfortunately, SiteLock VPN does not offer either a free trial nor a money-back guarantee safety net. Something that the company should change since it’s a market standard to provide a way to test the service before the purchase. On top of that, the variety of payment methods is also not great with only Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express available.

For a VPN launched in 2019, SiteLock still has a lot of space to grow when it comes to the information about its VPN on the website. Starting with the main page for the service, there are a few broken buttons and errors in the copywriting. On top of that, the FAQ page still doesn’t have entries for the VPN service, and there’s no community center. In other words, besides the general information on the web page and blog, there’s no other reading material to help you.
