We found this a little odd as it doesn’t align with the company’s inclusive ethos. Still, as soon as we were successfully logged in, it became clear that there are perks to this dating app that you simply don’t get with the free sites.

To get your profile up and visible, select your gender and sexuality and write a bio. You don’t even need to include your name. However, the company recommends adding details and photos to your bio to increase your chances of getting matches.

Unlike any other dating site we’ve reviewed, this app allows you to display your ‘turn-ons’ along with what you’re looking for on your profile. Some might view this as too forward, but PURE's take is that it’s honest.

We found the app’s search section to be overly busy. Most mobile dating apps display one profile at a time, but this one makes you scroll through profiles vertically. It takes some time to get used to this, along with the filters at the top of the screen and the three different interaction options.

On a positive note, there are over 1.5 million members worldwide, and we noticed how broad the range of profiles was. With this in mind, we were grateful for the filters, which let you be selective about what you’re looking for. If you have the women-only premium subscription, Pure Queen, you can even tailor who can like your profile with Smart Likes – a feature that isn’t typical of a dating site.

Pushing the boundaries of traditional dating even further, PURE's dating app has a unique game called ‘Devil’s Bones’. Targeted at the adventurous, you’re launched into an audio chat (which can then turn into video) with a randomly selected person. They could be located near you or on the other side of the world. The main catch is that if you want to keep the conversation going, saving the chat costs extra.

PURE has nurtured a safe environment for interacting with matches. There are measures to reduce spam and unwanted communication, such as a chat only being opened once both parties have sent a like. However, it is still possible to talk to people who haven’t sent you a like by buying instant chat tokens.

Once in a chat, you can let your creativity loose and send photos, videos, stickers, or even opt for a video call.

With all this freedom, we were pleased to see that users can clear the entire chat history for both parties whenever they like, and you can set photos and videos to self-destruct. In fact, it’s impossible to save, copy, or screenshot anything in the app, and the person you’re talking with will be alerted if you attempt to do so. Plus, if things get out of hand, don’t worry because it’s easy to block and report someone.

According to the company, the web app is accessible to anyone paying for a subscription. However, when we tried to access this browser version with a PURE Queen subscription, we had no luck. Nevertheless, this isn’t a big problem as the site is intended for mobile use and works well on Android and iOS devices.

You can purchase subscriptions in the mobile app, along with optional extras. These include virtual gifts in the form of fun stickers, instant chats, and chips for saving chats in Devil’s Bones. Although this pricing information can all be found in the app, it’s almost impossible to find elsewhere.

On the flip side, we liked how straightforward it was to set up and edit your profile, store photos in the PURE album, and manage chats in the mobile app.

PURE's dating app is reasonably priced, but finding and understanding the pricing structure is challenging. After some digging, we discovered that the prices differ significantly for men and women.

Men need to purchase a subscription to access the app, browse potential matches, and send likes. These plans start at $6.67 per month with annual billing. For those preferring a short-term commitment, the monthly plan is $29.99 per month. However, users can get up to 15% off with the company’s occasional promo codes. Finally, for daters wanting to dip their toe into the PURE world, the weekly option is $13.49, working out at $53.96 per month.

While women don’t have to pay to use the app, if they want to enjoy premium features, they’ll need to buy the exclusive women-only subscription – Pure Queen. It’s certainly an appealing package, with incognito mode, smart likes, like filtering, profile unblocking, and avatars.

Payments take place in the app through your Apple, Google, or Huawei account. We liked how efficient this is, but we were disappointed that refunds aren’t available and free access is limited to women.

There’s a lot to praise about PURE's customer service. The FAQ section is brimming over with key information that’s easily accessible – and most answers can be found here. Going the extra mile, the PURE Journal contains engaging tips and tricks on successfully using the app to date.

At first, we appreciated how you can contact the PURE team directly in the app’s chat section. However, our expectations were lowered when we discovered that our questions were answered with autoreplies. We received a similar response to our email, but this was soon rectified by a helpful team member who gave us all the information we needed – and we only had to wait 30 minutes. The company is active on Instagram, X, and TikTok.

Although it is possible to access the app for free, we found it quite controversial that this freedom is only granted to women, and men must pay a minimum of $6.67 per month to use the site. Standardizing subscription plans and moving away from the gender-based pricing structure would make the site more accessible and equal.
