ProxyServer.com is a U.S.-based company from Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2012, they are about more than offering proxy services as the company’s name leads you to think. The company offers a full-fledged VPN service in addition to the free proxy server option that is accessible from the main page of their website and lets you access any other domain with a bit more protection. Their ProVPN service comes with a unique VPN client available for both Windows and Mac that’s based on the stellar OpenVPN open source software. ProxyServer.com’s VPN service also has a free trial, although it is a bit hard to find out about it. It lasts one week, but you can get up to 60 days of free VPN if you acquire a promo code, or participate in their occasional beta events. ProxyServer.com is a versatile service that has good, sustained speeds and 24/7 customer support. Below is a more detailed explanation of what they have to offer.

ProxyServer.com has client software available for you to connect with, currently for Windows and Mac. We tested the former’s application.

It is important to state that this software is not entirely ProxyServer.com’s own creation. It is based off of (and cooperates flawlessly with) the open-source OpenVPN system. Next to the company’s client, you can also download this open-source version as well. Regardless of which one you choose, you will not be presented with too much advanced settings. In fact, ProxyServer.com’s version has no inherent “settings” button to press. This is a bit of a problem; you are not given information inside the client about the client itself. Thus, we now inform you that it uses OpenVPN exclusively, and that there is not much else to it sadly, other than visuals. Nevertheless, it gets the job done; connections are quick and easy, and performance is solid.

Free website proxy

ProxyServer.com has a free website proxy, directly in reach from their main page. All you have to do is type or copy in the address of the website you want to visit (or search for it), and you will automatically be connected to it via a proxy server. This is very useful for browsing, but since ProxyServer.com supports P2P and torrenting as well, you have other benefits to consider, too.

ProxyServer.com windows client

Overall, it is a bit disappointing to see a clear lack of VPN features, let it be inside or outside respective client software. We also find it a bit odd that on the main page, the website proxy and VPN services are compared, in favor of the latter. They have little to do with each other, as the proxy is the website’s built-in module, while the VPN is provided by a separate program. Our impression was that this is merely a method to persuade people into purchases.

VPN network

To kick things off, you need to set up a free account through which you will get access to 9 different servers spread out over 8 different countries: the U.S., UK, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. This number increases to 26 if you have a paid subscription account, including two on African territory: in Egypt and South Africa.

Overall the quality of the VPN servers is good; so is the connection speed, depending on the server’s location. We tested a few servers and found out that, despite the geographic proximity, the U.S. servers (both East and West Coast ones) seem to be the ones with less speed, compared to servers in France or Brazil for example. Despite this, you should be able to access websites fairly easily, as videos play normally and lag is almost non-existing.

Privacy protection

ProxyServer.com uses OpenVPN predominantly to protect and hide your online presence. In fact, we are writing about the open-source original version of it. The difference is that ProxyServer.com has its own client that takes care of some time-consuming work in place of the basic OpenVPN software. Nevertheless, security is A-grade.

ProxyServer.com VPN and proxy

Regarding privacy policy, ProxyServer.com is average or a bit better. Next to most of your actions on their official website, the following data are stored (and here we quote said site): “times when connected to our service, choice of server location, and the total amount of data transferred per day”. This is fine, it is nothing strict.

ProxyServer.com has average device support. The two most favored platforms are Windows and Mac OS X. Both of these have their respective client software to use. The company does not have any other software, but applications for iOS and Android will be available in 2016. This of course means that these two mobile devices are supported, but via manual setup only. You can use two devices simultaneously on your account. Though ProxyServer.com does not exactly clarify which ones, it seems that by default, you can use their VPN on the majority of routers today. They ask you to contact them if you run into problems regarding router setup.

Pricing

ProxyServer.com has one of the simplest pricing layouts. There is only one type of plan available for purchase – their premium ProVPN one. ProxyServer.com keeps things clean and simple by offering just two flavors of their premium option. There is the ProVPN Monthly that comes at $9.99 billed month after month, where as the ProVPN Yearly option offers a whopping 40% discount. Coming at a reduced price of $5.99 per month paid upfront for one year of service, the ProVPN Yearly plan is obviously the one to sign up for. If you’re not entirely sure about ProxyServer.com yet, know that you have a 30-day refund attached to your purchase. This is an extremely generous and risk-free opportunity to – if nothing else – test out ProxyServer.com. For this purpose, you also have a 7-day free trial to use, though we suggest contacting the company first to acquire it. If you manage to acquire promo codes, they usually provide 60 days of free ProxyServer.com ProVPN.

ProxyServer.com pricing

In our opinion, the pricing policy is fine. The costs however, are a different matter with ProxyServer.com. It is a bit too much for what it is worth. You payment options are very sparse. Currently, you can only pay via PayPal. Bitcoins, Visa and MasterCard will be introduced soon.

Bottom line

ProxyServer.com is on its own journey. Having started the VPN side of their services lately, they have progressed a lot. It is true that their servers favor the USA, but you can find rare locations on their list as well. The free proxy is also quite advantageous, though it is a bit odd that they compare it to the VPN on the front page (presumably to encourage purchases). Speed values are also decent. We were not so sure about payment options that need rapid expansion, and just maybe they could cut a bit off the one price configuration they have. Otherwise, this is not a bad VPN at all.
