With internet freedom being one of the most heated discussions in recent years, users are seeking more privacy and security whenever they log on. VPN services are the best answer to this problem. But like any technology market, wherever there’s great demand, there’s great supply – but not of that supply will be good. Customers debate between choosing a simple service versus choosing one that has many features, but the latter may not understand how to use them.
Private Internet Access and Webroot WiFi Security are both VPN providers that try to target both users who are new to using VPNs and also those who already have experience with such software. Both of these companies are considered top players within the industry, too, with a number of similarities. But is there something that differentiates these two solutions in the customer’s eyes?
Launched in 2010, Private Internet Access is already known as one of the best VPN services on the market. This VPN software targets newcomers, but still has features suitable for those who want a complete security solution. It comes with over 3,300 servers covering 32 countries and the connection speeds are satisfying. However, the program’s real strength is in privacy protection: it uses protocols like AES-128 (GCM/CBC) and AES-256 (GCM/CBC). As a bonus, a kill switch feature is available, along with the company’s own developed feature “MACE”. This tool will block domains used for ads, trackers, and malware.
Altogether, Private Internet Access can be used on up to ten devices simultaneously, whether they have Windows, Android, macOS, iOS, or Linux operating systems. And despite all this, the software still comes at a very attractive price, making it possible for users to purchase from as low as $3.49 per month. However, no VPN software is perfect. The company has too few customer support channels available and its FAQ section on the website is badly organized. Nor is a trial or free version available, which is a concern when so many VPN providers offer this.
With vast experience in the security solutions market, Webroot WiFi Security aims to provide a complete VPN service for both newcomers and advanced users. With over 35 countries available, the program uses encryption tools like IKEv2, OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, and IPsec to protect its customers. Webroot adds extra security by including a kill switch feature and a web filtering tool, which will display a warning whenever the user is about to enter a malicious or risky website. And though its connection speeds are fairly average, the software makes up for this with an extensive set of options that allows users to customize their browsing experience.
When it comes to its pricing policy, however, Webroot disappoints big time. Although customers can try the program for free for a seven-day period, they will have to pick a subscription to do so ultimately leading to a charge once the trial ends. In addition, there are only two plans available, the difference between them being that one costs an extra $20 to protect two more devices. The company has a strict no-refunds policy, too, so those who don’t want to keep using the software after the trail will really make sure they cancel in advance.
Private Internet Access and Webroot WiFi Security Comparison are both companies that already have great market experience. This is clearly an advantage for them, as with such knowledge both can walk the thin line between being accessible for new users and interesting for advanced users. Both VPN services have invested in a diverse range of encryption tools to protect their customers, while features like a kill switch help to improve their overall performance.
But there are also differences between them. Private Internet Access has a network that spans 32 country locations with over 3,300 servers all with satisfying connection speeds. Webroot WiFi Security, on the other hand, has a similar 35 countries in its network but its connection speeds are fairly average. When it comes to customizing the VPN, however, Webroot accomplishes more than Private Internet Access by offering users the opportunity to select encryption tools, chose between protocols, and manage trusted Wi-Fi networks.
With that said, both services are good providers so users would be wise to carefully read through our complete reviews to find out more information about the two services.
